      Center Console Started

      Started my center console today.
Was trying to decide whether to make it out of wood or metal.
I need to practice my welding so I decided to make it out of metal.
Got most of the frame put together. I wanted to attach it to the original console mounts so I fabed up the brackets too.

      Started the flip top today.
Got the hinge in and most of the lid framed out.
Welded some nuts into the lid so it can be removable.
A couple more cross braces and I can start covering it with sheet metal.
      Hopefully more tomorrow.

Please keep the progress pics coming. You've inspired me to built one too....after the other inspired (half done) projects are finished.

Have to stop construction now. I need the shifter, power window switches, and cup holders to finish up the frame construction.
Just ordered this shifter from Lokar. I also ordered the shorter shifter, 6" instead of the one shown in the picture.
Way too long. Got to change out the shifter knob also.
I really like the look of the boot and indicator though.

What size rod are you using? Any more close up pics of the flip-top available? Very nice work!

I think it would look sick if you put the sheet metal on the inside! HA haha!

Got the sheet metal for the console today.
Now I can start forming the outside shell.
Kind of thinking of a combination of brushed metal and black padding.
Maybe even some rivets for that industrial look. Have to play around some.
      Lots of ideas.

      Thanks,
Had a chance to start covering the console frame today.
Does not seem like much but this is my first time doing any kind
of metal shaping so it was slow going.
First picture is the extra braces for the cup holders. Don't ask me why I need extra bracing for the cup holders, but I figure better to be too strong than not strong enough.

Good job. Keep it up. I'm also building a console out of round bar. I also plan on wrapping mine with sheet metal and then leather. Here's a link to the one I'm doing: https://www.pro-touring.com/showthre...far&highlight= Ours are very similar. I really like working with the round bar and would definitely build one again with it.
