Sweatin holes in my underwear!!
Yes, thats what I did on Power Tour this year, even though I have A/C.
I have a vintage air setup, I think it is the super cooler, bought it about 5 years ago.
Problem is, when engine rpms go above about 1700, the efficincy of the a/c drops. The higher the rpms, the worse things are. I have a sanden compressor, mounted low on a bbc, with a single v belt driving the compressor. I have looked at the belt, and it shows no signs of slippage.I have a condensor from a late model car, as big as I could fit in the car. It was properly flushed just prior to plumbing into the system. I know I need to take the car in and have the system checked to see if it is low on freon, but it blows so cold at idle.
Any ideas?

Re-check that belt....Put a white mark on the outside of that A/C belt, and get your timing light out and shine it at the belt while tipping in the carb a few raps....if you see that white mark moving on around out of sight....the belt IS slipping. Originally Posted by Evldoer

Your system is probably low, watch to see if your clutch stays engaged while bringing the rpms up. Also try running the blower on a lower setting while cruising, typically your ac will blow colder at 3 than 4. Well that's been my experience anyway....

Thanks for the tips fellas, I will try and find some time later this week and play with the A/C, and report back with what I find.

Update: Last week we added some freon to the system after checking for belt slippage. The belt is not slipping from what we could see. Now I think I have to much freon in the system. Well I wont be needing the a/c anymore this year, but still have to figure it out before power tour next year. I am going to evac the system and start over and see where that goes.

What are the pressures like? If your going to do a regas, use gas with die added. It will aid in leak detection.
