Read this from Longacre Racing. http://www.longacreracing.com/articles/art.asp?ARTID=13 Bump steer, Ackerman and Turn radius are just a few of the variables you need to be concerned with.
You can't take any old rack and pinion and throw it in a car and have it work. There are a LOT of design issues that need to be addressed and adapting a rack to an existing suspension is a difficult task. You would be much farther ahead to pick up a good recirc gear box and rebuild your steering system with good quality parts. Don't cut up your car for a "rack and pinion" that steers worse than the old box.
