'67 Corvair

Just picked up a '67 Corvair with a Chevy 327 in the back seat (mid-engine). It is very much a 'shadetree build' as it currently sits. It has great potential as the car should 'balance' well. Looking to drop an LS-??? motor in and high-tech suspension to do some autocross/roadracing. Does anyone have any experience with the Corvair? This is not a Crown or Kelmark kit...the engine sit farther back for more driver space. I have read that the stock transaxle is a weak point in the drivetrain and will be shopping for a beefy transaxle that can handle the rigors of getting 'racey'. Any/all suggestions are gratefully accepted.

Kewl project ... I've seen one of these rigs back in the 80's & it was a monster on the street.

Got any more pics? From what I've read the stock stuff can be made to handle 300hp.

I've got a little experience with them. LoL. The trans weakest link is the plate on top. Have a new plate made of 1/4 inch steel. It'll save you a split diff. Never a good idea to really hammer the throttle from a dead stop in a v8vair. There has been many people talking about dropping an ls motor in, myself included. If I get the money, I'd surely do it. Most importantly, What is the brake situation on this car? That kind of power with the Corvair's stock brakes is a bad thing.
