      700 r4 speedo conversion

I just bought a 700r4 and did not relize that it has an electronic speedo. My nova has a mechanical speedo.

Can you convert the 700 from electric to mechanical speedo?

I know that you can buy a converter but it is expensive. You may be able to change your tail housing if your output shaft has the pad for the gear. Not sure if all 700R4 shafts have it.

Are you running the stock or aftermarket speedo? If aftermarket do they make an electronic version of your set? If so change the speedo, cheaper and more reliable.

Now I have the stock speedo for a 1966 nova.

To buy complete new guages would run $500- $800.

I'd look at the possibility of the tail housing change then.

Turns out that the trans had a mechanical speedo with an electric adapter screwed in.
