What should I get for a/c ???

I have a 69 Camaro hard top non a/c car I live in Kentucky. I want a/c
So the female will enjoy the car more an it would just be nice ;). But what should I go with am about to redone my body an paint so I would like to do the install when am putting to car back together. The motor will be an ls1 from a 2000 Camaro it will have the power steering pump an alternator with stock water pump an a underdrive crank pulley (asp). If anyone could tell me any info it would help I see that vintage air Is a sponsor on here an I seen people been doing the vintage air Gen 4 in some of the Camaro's but don't know if that's the best kit for me r would work for me.

48 degrees comng out of the vents [according to my handy tire temp guage that I was playing with at the time]

I put the Vintage Air gen 4 kit in my LS powered 68 corvette. They worked with me on the LS related parts. I think they offer the Kwik bracket for drivers side top compressor mount. It fit great, they were a terrific company to work with with on the LS replacement parts. Buy from a local disributor if you can, their shipping costs on small parts (ie trinary switch) can be expensive.
I just put Classic Auto air in my LS powered 72 Olds 442. No one offered a direct fit kit and I knew I would be mofifying a lot of stuff , so I went with the simpler cable operated kit from Classic. They were great to deal with too, they swapped out a lot of parts at no cost. They even offer the Kwik bracket at half price.
Both great companies with great products.

Vintage Air, although I had some issues with mine such as the power switch to the compressor clutch was routed through the stock fan switch and burnt up my contacts. A simple relay and contact cleaning fixed it. Also, one of the hose crimped connections going into the dryer loosened up and leaked fluid. It still works like a champ to this day.

You cannot bundle the white power wire with any other wire or risk unwanted electro magnetic interference getting into the VA cpu, which will cause crazy things like hyper relay chatter. I did bundle and buttoned up in a fender before realizing I had a problem. I had to abandon the original supply feed and run a new isolated power feed.

That's the only con I found with the whole system, that the cpu power supply circuit has not undergone too much R&D in the EMI/isolation/shielding/protection front.

In the middle of installing a Gen IV kit in my wife's 69. (hardtop, non a/c, flushed firewall) I'm doing the extended hose deal through the fender/vent hole. We have a March accessory drive system with the compressor on the passenger side which made routing the hoses easier. Not using any bulkhead fittings also reduces the number of connections. I’m using DSE's bracket which is handy for taking the unit on and off while fitting up everything.

I just got the refrigerant hoses crimped by the parts store yesterday and all the hoses installed last night. I am going to start wiring tonight and hope to get it charged up by Friday. (it’s been nasty hot lately) No heat/ac controls came with the car so we are using the vertical 3 knob control which is a quality piece. We have a Covan dash with a blank area to the right of the steering wheel so it fits nice.

Only problem I've ran into is with the wiper motor. When the guy before us flushed the firewall he hid the motor under the dash. The hose box/adapter deal for the driver, center, and passenger vents hit it. That part is removable so I'm working on fabing up a different shaped piece to get the job done.

My kit didn’t come with the coolant/heater hose but it’s readily available at the parts store. The instructions could be more informative for a newb but there are enough details to get the job done.

I'm sure that eBay has good deals but they don't always have the support that a Prodigy Customs (for example) will have before and after the sale.

Even if you find a really aggressive price, try checking with the forum sponsors first. You might be surprised what they can do for you.

Just me but I like to try and support those who support us.
