      69 Firebird Convertible project

Here are a few photos of my 69 Firebird convertible project. It's taking me awhile but I thought I would post a few photos. The subframe looks good thanks to some welding, sandblasting and paint from Frank and Michael at Prodigy Customs. Once I get some of the mechanical work done, I'll start tearing into the body.

Looks good Steve, keep us updated please. I noticed quarter gills in this picture...

Is that a reflection or does this car have gills?

Yes, someone put Camaro quarter skins on it in the early 80's. Those will go away when the body gets done.

A real Pontiac engine. Specs please. Any future engine changes? Has that engine just been rebuilt? R.P.

Engine is a 71 400 block, bored .030. It was rebuilt in the late 80's but sat in my dad's shop until last year. At least he kept it oiled and turned over every once in awhile. It has stock rods and crank but all new bearings, forged TRW pistons, #62 Ram Air III heads with stainless valves, Comp Cams XE274 cam and valve springs, Comp roller tipped rockers, Comp lifters, pushrods and timing chain, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Edelbrock 750 carb, Flow Kooler aluminum water pump. Distributor is an HEI with a Pertronix kit. The valve covers are early '70's Cal Custom. I'm leaning towards ceramic coated long branch manifolds instead of headers for a neater look. I would really like to do a stroker kit and fuel injection, but that's just not in my non-existent budget. The car is getting built slowly since my wife thinks renovating our house comes first.

      Frank,
Didn't I read an old post where you said you were going to do a 69 convertible TA clone for your wife? How about we do two at the same time -- a black and red one for you and either a yellow/ black or sliver/blue one for me? If l can find another body you can have this one. You probably have enough exta parts from Jagarang to build one. LOL!
