well technically, that bike is still a slow hardley, so a sport bike will quickly outrun one of those, but luckily the sport bike doesnt outrun the helicopter/radio.



That's pretty insane though. I found just the course for my M1 license to be a pita and it was nothing compared to that course.

There are many of these types of videos I have seen over the years. The CHP has an excellent training program for it's officers and many come out able to toss around modified (heavier with equipment) BMW bikes like you wouldn't believe.

That's incredible. I learned to ride on one of those, and I had a LOT of trouble negotiating normal turns with it, that bike is VERY heavy.

my point was that some kid w/ no experience or training on a fast bike is no match for a trained motorcycle cop on a heavier harley.
I love those police harleys; my city has them. it's cool to watch the engine vibrate in the frame while everything else is still. they sound great too.

Out running an FLHTP is the easy part. Skills be damned, if the bike ain't up to it, you ain't gonna catch 'em.
It's the radio (or another motorist) that usually does the job.

Actually, "some kid" on a crotch rocket, depending on the conditions, will ditch a fully dressed police bike every time.
Remember, this is a controlled course you're seeing.

In traffic, especially if the kid knows where he's going, you'd be better off letting him go than risking a fatality over a traffic ticket.

And before I get my ass jumped, I speak from years of experience.
I'm a retired motor cop, head of our motor unit, and senior instructor.

After retirement, continued to teach for the MSF.
It was a sort of bast**dization of the police course, without some of the ultra tight turns and higher speeds.

We did this sort of thing regularly, only we added some higher speed legs to it to force emergency braking and collision avoidance maneuvers.
We also had a minimum qualification standard to meet to stay in the unit.

If you watch the rider, his technique is textbook perfect for the bike he's riding.

His torso remains upright, his head turns are deep and radical, and he exhibits excellent clutch/throttle and brake control.
Believe me, you won't make some of those turns if you don't really turn your head, keep your chin up (so you don't corkscrew yourself into the tarmac).

There are some really great motor cops out there that compete in state and national rodeos yearly.
Some of these guys and gals are unbelievable!!

And NO, you can't ride "just like that" after taking a motorcycle course

a lot.

When I 1st started riding police motors, we went through a 4 week, 12 hours a day, very intensive training course.

For the first week, I spent more time horizontal than I did vertical
And I'd been riding since I was about 10 or so.

I should have had quads and forearms the size of tree trunks for the number of times I had to pick that SOB up!

The bottom line is, you can train a monkey to ride fast, straight.
There's a lot to learn when it comes to pulling tight maneuvers on a fully dressed cop ride at damned near crawling speed.

But when you finally break the code....there's not much like it

This should be a requirement for some of the jackasses out on the road with motorcycles. Its to easy to get a license nowadays without any proper training or experience behind the wheel. That goes for ALL vehicles.

Heavy but well balanced and the rake is minimal.
We started out on Kawasaki 1000's, the old CHP bikes.
We went to the HD FXRP, and then to the FLHTP.

The FXRP is a PITA to maneuver around the cones. It has a longer rake, higher CG and not nearly as well balanced.

Turns are easy once you master the head and eyes techniques. The rest just takes practice

A lot of cops won't even start a pursuit with a motorcycle cause if they don't obey, the odds it ends in a fatality are much much higher. I know of a couple riders that have gone past a cop at about 120, they said the cop just pointed at them out his window.

Sure it may be dangerous at points, but on a wide open road haven't you opened the taps on your cars? I know I have gone faster than that in my car (I was next to that guy^ lol)

But with an italian superbike I know I'd test the limits as well...thats why I must stay away. haha
