Prodigy Power LS 6.2L, 11.80 / 116MPH CR in 3650LB Pro Touring Car!

So we snuck my customer Eddie Burke's 68 Camaro out to the dragstrip before we took it home to North Carolina last week. Every time micahel would drive the car Michael kept talking about how fast it is. michael has some pretty fast stuff so for him to say it was fast, it needed looking into. So I thought we should see what these Prodigy Power motors are made of. Knowing Eddie would be thrilled to have a time slip to show off we surprised Eddie with a time slip the next morning.

Eddies car runs our 520HP automatic version (manual trans get a 540HP version) of our LS 6.2L. Eddies car also has our new Prodigy Power 4L65E 5 pinion planetary transmission and our new Billet 2800 converter all feeding a new Moser 3.73 we also installed. Eddies car is not a drag car, but is a mild Pro Touring car with Hotchkis suspension and 17" wheels. A full weight cruiser weighed 3650LBS with Michael in it. We put a set of 28" ET Streets (too tall) on it because the street tires just make a 2 tire fire under 30MPH.

We went down south to West Palm Beach to make a few passes on Weds night before we took it home Thursday. Conditions were really Hot and Humid making the Density Altitude 2720 feet even though we were only a few feet above sea level. So when it gets this hot most cars slow down a few tenths. So we use the NHRA correction factors. The correction factor for 2720' is .9679 making the time of 12.19 @ 113MPH into a 11.80@116MPH! Not bad for a NONE drag car with to tall a tire (Car would LOVE a 4.30 gear for the dragstrip) and we also could have raised the shift points 300RPM (set conservative for Eddie). But we did not want to mess with it, high 11s was good enough! The car hoped and chirped the tires, but actually hooked pretty good after a tire melting burnout. Were it a drag car we would run a deeper gear, looser converter, raise shift points, but this is a Pro Touring car, a cruiser, that also got 23MPG!

We take a new GM 6.2L, swap the pistons, rebalance, install our cam and spring package, install a road race oil pan for A and F body installs, and dress it to the customers request.

The base motor includes Intake to pan, TB, Injectors, etc, coils, wires, plugs, etc. Needs ECM and sensor package (we Use GMPP stuff). We deliver it minus the water pump as water pumps come in most front drive kits. Also need flywheel / flex plate for transmission connection. Needs headers (no manifolds provided)

What were the 60ft times on that run? I ran 12.40s at 115 in 100 degree heat on the powertour. I just had finished the car & had not run it at the strip yet. I was hpoing to run better, but my 60ft times were not good. I'm running 3.73's but will be going with 4.10's, the car needed a bit more gear. I guess my times are about right. Maybe low 12's with improved launches. Great vid

OK i got a better look at the slip- looks like 1.773? Mine were only 2.0 and 2.1. I need some more seat time with the 6 speed...

You aren't going to get there without drag slicks. Rupp in Bad Penny ran 1.7xx on Mickey Thompson DOT's in Pomona while I was running high 1.9xx on R888's.
60 foot times equate to big time gains on the top end as far ET goes.

Your 115MPH tells the story. Unless you REALLY spin and go a 3.0 short time, MPH will still be really close to the full potential. So 115 MPH In 100 degree heat, depending on humidity and baro, air could have been between 1500 and 4000 feet. So for correction add a few MPH and on slicks, mid 11s easy?

First off I have to thank Lisa, Frank and his son Michael and everyone else at Prodigy they are fantastic the work they did on my car exceeded my expectations I think that everyone goes in with an idea and hope that comes out that way but usually it our expectations are let down but in my case they were exceeded as everyone at PRODIGY bent over backwards in helping me to get a car that I can be proud of. When I started thinking about having the work performed I checked with several people some I knew and some I didn’t but ultimately I decided on going with the guys at Prodigy now what Frank hasn’t told you is during the build I found out I had to have some major surgeries as we know with any surgeries things can happen and in my case I was worried especially when you walk in the room and the first thing that comes out of the doctor’s mouth is your on bed rest (confined) until you have this surgery and was going to have the surgery in a week and I really wanted to be able to drive my car just in case something happened so I called Frank up and explained the situation and they busted their rear ends and I was able to get it back just in time to drive it before having my surgery. The sad part was after they started the surgery I went from a three way by-pass to six way by-pass and now that I had the car back I couldn’t drive it for ten weeks and it was sitting in the back yard garage and I couldn’t even walk back there to look at it, but the good part was my wife was scared of it due to the power and wouldn’t drive it. Then, this year Frank picked up the car for some additional tinkering and I was going to meet him in Charlotte to bring it home only to find out I had to have another surgery and had call him and explain I would need to wait as I was going to have to have another surgery and would not be able to drive the car now for 2 weeks. Well instead Frank and Lisa delivered my car to my house and I did get to drive it into the back yard. The reason I bring all of this up is that the guys at Prodigy are great I know that they are a business and are in it to make a living but not many companies do what they have done deliver your car to your front door and take the time to just talk. Well let get off of my story this is about all of the folks at Prodigy I said I know that this is how they make a living and that they work over 70 hours a week and their work is fantastic but to me they seem more like family they are just as we say back home just good ole people and will do anything for you if they can and I would recommend them to anyone and I am a real picky person so in closing again I would like to thank everyone at Prodigy for all of the work that they did the work they did is fantastic and I will use them again in fact I have already discussed with Frank about tubs, rims & tires, having it painted and new interior and the funny part is my wife is OK with it and believe me she is tight with the money. As last of all Frank did well let’s just say surprise us with the race but we loved it I have already showed everyone in my office (especially my boss as I always hear about their 13 second car and now I can BRAGG about the 11 second car.

Frank: I don’t know what you said to Debbie but she drove it that night and loves it and is not scared of it at all the only bad part is that it’s embarrassing pulling in to a car show with your wife driving but that’s OK she loves driving the car and is even on planning on driving it to work to show it off the bad part is I have to be the passenger but that’s OK I can start driving it next week.

On automatic Pro Touring Cars we like to keep the converter under 300 RPM stall so we use a slightly smaller camshaft which steals a tick of power, but keeps the car from being lazy down low or requiring a bigger converter which is not preferred in a Pro Touring Car. All those converter sizing issues go away with a manual transmission so we use the bigger cam, make more powa.

Here is a rear wheel dyno sheet on a manual transmission with a very conservative tune. Notice a couple things. Notice we got great torque numbers to match the HP numbers. Also notice it make 430HP to 443HP from 5500 RPM to 6500 RPM. Also notice how flat the power is from 6000 RPM to 6500 RPM. At 6500 is is not even thinking about nosing over. A flat high RPM power curve is important because when you make a shift, you are falling back into good power still. Also, the torque curve is over 400 from 4300 RPM to 5700 RPM. So when you make that shift, you are near max torque also. This conbination makes for what I call "fast horsepower" meaning not all equal horsepower motors are as "fast as one another.
