Low Rod?

Some where along the way someone told me there's a PT spin off trend for cars with big wheels, low suspensions, and apparently most of them are larger cars like gm B bodies and don't see much track time, mostly show car builds. Thought he said they were called "low rod" but when I google image search that I see everything from what I just described to rat rods to some weird guy in what looks like ladies underwear.

Any idea what this trend is really called?

The hell with all the "Trendy Names" for builds. The way i see it, its all hot roddin! I enjoy this site because thats what appeals to my "taste" of hot roddin. What people call "Rat Rods" i see as a traditional hot rod. This is what guys and gals where doin back then with the technology they had to build custom cars. We are doing the same thing, just with better technology. Lets all keep building hot rods and forget about all the "Trendy Names" for a specific look. Good luck to all that are working on a project and to all those that have a completed car..DRIVE AND ENJOY THE HELL OUT OF IT!

If there were no "trendy names" you'd have to filter through the lowriders, pro-street, rat rods, pickups, mini-trucks, etc to find the stuff in the style that you like...

It's just semantics; it's easier to say "pro-touring" than "an old muscle car with power, good handling, big brakes, driveability..." It's also alot easier to search the search engines when you have a concrete term, which is probably something along the lines of what he OP is after.

The rat rod guys hate their stuff being called rat rods too. Personally, I don't care what someone calls my car. But it is convenient having a name for the general style that brings us together.

You can't believe some some of the questions that we get that would fall into this! Best one was a builder asked me if we could get Strange Engineering to attach some dummy reservoirs to the coil-overs so they would look cooler. LMAO!

Lol! You guys are coming up with some great names! Mostly I wanted to know so I can do some googling for ideas and contacts. There's a pretty diverse world out there as far as shops go, but unlike my class mates who wanna build chopped Mercs and traditional Dueces, I wanna build hardcore PT cars and lowered show car PT look alike wanna be's, or whatever you call 'em. I've seen so many great projects since I joined the forum recently, but the ones that really get me goin' are the ones that have well thought out design elements added to them and fabrication to match.

Funniest thing I saw at a car show was a 69 Camaro. Real nice car, very well done, but behind the 17" TTs were fakie drilled rotors that covered the factory brakes. My friend brought me to the car all excited because it was the car genre that I really like, and I said, "Dude, the car looks like it has plastic rotors and there's no calipers!?!" and walked away.
