I am watching Speed Makers on speed
and they are talking about Lotus.
Now I am not close minded and think american cars rules everything else sucks.
I like any and all cars from old to new.
I am just saying these Super Light Weight track cars maybe fun to have
they have a ALL ALUMINUM FRAME for pete sakes
yes its power plant is a 4 cylinder super charged engine but a top speed of 150mph isnt bad.
Now with a price tag of 50 thousand dollars people would say "I would rather have a vette"
But I see tons of vettes on the streets and tracks But never a Lotus.

All and all this looks to be a cool car to have in my garage

I am in love with the Lotus Exige. My wife actually has grown to love them more than me. We drove the regular Elise and very quickly I found out that the "Fun" factor quickly fades. They are track cars made street legal and as such, lack many of the creature comforts that most people come to take for granted.

yes, it is a fun car and yes it is a hell of a ride, but after about 30 minutes my but and back were a little sore. The seats are aluminum racing seats with about 1/4" of padding. Driving on the streets without power steering is a bit of pain even though the thing weighs nothing. Getting in and out of it was also challenging and I'm not a big guy (5-8 and in shape)

Now, if you have the money to plunk down 60K+ on a car that will be driven minimally, they go for it! But as a daily or even frequently driven vehicle it is NOT the way to go.

I think they're nice cars, great concept, "add lightness" Im pretty sure my woman would happily trade me in on a blue exige lol, shes absolutely in love with them.

All depends on who you talk to. I see a black Exige around my office regularly and is driven by a female. I see a few Elises around that are also driven very regularly. The idea of driving a Lotus daily has crossed my mind too.

The Z06 and ZR1s also have an aluminum frame.

The show I saw this past week was about a Lotus but it had a Toyota 245 hp 3.X liter six cylinder and was supercharged to make around 350hp when under boost. All hand assembled and yeah..... that extruded and glued together aluminum frame was neat to watch them assemble.

If you are 5'10" or less and 180lbs or less and single an Exige/Elise could potentially be a perfectly reasonable street car.

the new Lotus Evora has a toyota 3.5 L Toyota 2GR-FZE V6 (supercharged, 345 hp) but it weighs in over 3,000 lbs. and runs 0-60 in 4.9 seconds; which is not bad in many ways, but up to par with many cars even half of the price...

6'2" and I fit when I was 220lbs.

The most awkward feature of the Lotus Elise and Exige is how wide the door sills are. It's just a very unnatural motion to get in and out of the car.

Otherwise, they're great fun little cars. I'd like them even more if they didn't use Toyota powerplants.
