trunk lid rust
The underside of my trunk lid, between the skin and the shell, has surface rust, what is the best way to deal with this? Any help is appreciated.

Rust in between metal panels is tuff to get to. So, about the only choice is to use some type of metal etch, and/or acid dip chemical and spray it down in there. The problem is, that you can't help the chemical process along my scuffing. This means that you will most likely need to leave the chemical on for an extended period of time. Most likely you will need to take the lid off and put it into some type of tray so that the chemicals will submerse the lid. Some of the chemicals that work are things like Jasco metal etch, PPG 549 metal prep, Eastwood rustsolv (has phosphate included in it). Just as it was stated by Stefan, after some how chemically cleaning the rust and/or neautralizing it, you will definitely need to seal it up.

well that's quite disappointing, expected but disappointing. My other thought was to carefully the shell away from the shell edge/skin then clean up the rust, seal and stitch weld back together, any thoughts on that method?
