Drilling holes in dashboard????

I plan to mount my tach on my dash on the left corner, but it requires to screws to be drilled in. My dash is great condition. Would it be wise to do it?
I personally dont care, I am building this car for me and dont care about resale value

I think you answered you own question. In sure using an adhesive will ruin a good dash just as easily

The dash is metal. You can weld holes closed.

Thanks for the advice everybody, I still am not sure on what I really want to do, but I am planing on drilling two small holes and putting a awesome Auto meter american muscle tach up there. WHo cares right we only live once

me id want it concealed and neat looking but if you like it like that do it. it your *****. if you want it pink yellow and purple with a penis shifter its all you baby. not saying you will but im just saying ya know.

I agree, I'm also not a purist, but try to keep my cars to be put back to original if necessary, by keeping plenty of duplicate parts onhand, to modify/alter, while still having original parts in near perfect condition for originality requirements.

If you don't want to cut holes in the dash, then consider an extra pair of A-pillars to drill holes into, and mount the tach sideways with a custom bracket, then keep your original A-pillars in a safe place for when you might get bored with the custom tach, and just want to go back to the plain brown wrapper.

Just a few thoughts to get your creative ideas in motion, hope this helps.

Lol, I noticed, but he is right sort of. Its my car i can do what I want. I really didn't want to do the a pillar thing, I just really dont like the look. My mechanic kept telling me about it too lol.

But i didn't know it was existing holes in the dash. Maybe the bracket could work. I will look up some images and see what the 68 dash board looks like without the cover and get an idea, of some possible mounting solutions.

Use a steering column mount kit. Available everywhere.
Or mount it in-dash where your gas gauge is.
I guess you're talking about your '68, my take on it is that your car has made it 43 years without holes why start now? Just sayin'.

X2 on the steering column mount. Very old school but simple and works well ....

I like the magnet but, it might screw around with the elctronics and audio. Thats just a thought. and i like the fact that the car has mad it 43 years without holes in it too. So maybe a bracket, and my steering wheel is small, I really dont want it on the column.
Do you know if magnets can through off audio, and maybe gauge readings????

Ok so its been a long time since I looked at my car, over 10 months and I realized just how nice my dash is. So i understand where the people who disagreed with the drilling of holes. and then I realized with the help of google that steering column mounted tachs aren't half bad. Then I saw this. It is awesome!!! It is what i want and i can keep my dash in good condition. (This is not my car by the way or my photo) Does anybody have any idea on how to do this???

Steering column mounted tach may not work if you have(and use) a tilt column.
I know that I could not do that with my 69 Camaro because of the tilt.

I can't tell from that pic as to where the tach is attached and I'm not that familiar with the dashes on the 68.

most tachs have a bracket that you can pass a hose clamp through.

i thinks its attached to the area where the cigarette lighter is. and i think my column is stock. Ok i will look at a hose clamp/ bracket for the area where the lighter is

That is a cool, clean dash appearance.
Steering mounted tachs are too bulky, look out of place as "afterthought", and are just tacky/tachy, in my opinion. LOL
