Help with car appraisals

When I had my appraisal done I was told by the insurance company who was approved by them. None of the approved appraisers were able to come to my house and look at the car. I then found an appraiser who could come out and then had the insurance company let me know if they would accept the appraisal from them.

To me it seemed it is like welding and forklift certifications, the company you are dealing with decides what is certified and what is not and not some school somewhere that is the only acceptable choice.
