Heading to Lowes to buy overhead shop lights
I was hoping the contractor would recommend something, but he's leaving it up to me. What do you recommend? Will be heading down there within the next 2 hours.

why lowes? home depot or HD supply usually have better prices..

I'm with you there. I usually shop there when I can. Unfortunately it's quite far from home and traffic is heck.

4 8' shouldn't be too bad. i have 8 4' lights over my car so its the same amount of light as you have but i set mine up in a "_/" angle around the car. there is not one shadow lol.

So could I power something like this if I wired into my 4 overhead lights and get rid of the regular bulbs? Currently I have four overhead light spots on one switch/circuit and currently have two 100w bulbs at the one end and 2 200w bulbs over the work bench.
Or, I could just get some plug in units as I don't use the wall outlets much though I need more of them.Thomas

When I did the lighting in the garage two years ago the best deal out there were the Home Depot 4' two-bulb T8's. If memory serves they were under $20 each, and with the T8 bulb the life is longer, has better output, uses less power, and lots of temperature choice. It's a three-car garage and there are 15 on the ceiling and six more above the work areas. They are set up in zones so not all need to be on at the same time. I don't regret one bit over-lighting the garage. It makes working a lot more pleasurable.

The guy who wired them up did not recommend more than three lights on one switch. So we put them spaced equally perpendicular to the car. With the "daylight" bulbs it's still like being outside even when it's completely dark out.
