Yes, take the hood off, mark your holes before you do so though to keep the alignment where you have it. Some guys will do this by drilling a 1/8" hole in each side of the bracket/hood. When you go to put it back on, put a rivet in there and bolt it up!

Too bad you aren't closer, I have two engine stands that I am storing until I get another motor on there, I'd let ya borrow one!

The stand ended up being for a friggin big block, so it's sort of in the stand and still held by the cherry picker.

Got it out with one chain diagonal across the driver and passenger side heads. Came out smooth.

      Thanks guys.

Strange. Most engine stands are kind of "universal" and can be adjusted.
'66 GTO Vert Project "Red Ink", 462ci of stroked pontiac power, TKO600, SC&C Stg II+, Tubular lowers, Currectrac Rear suspension, Moser 12bolt w/Truetrack, Wilwood Master and discs all around, too much fun for words...

Well, this one isn't what I'd call a "stand". It's a cube of square steel welded together with stops on both sides of where the engine sits. The engine can roll around between the stops, I put some soft wood on both sides to stop it from rolling. It really doesn't "seem" safe.

What you've got sounds like an engine "cradle" and not an "engine stand".

Yeah, that sort of looks like it. This one is homemade, though. =\

Does Autozone rent them, I wonder?
