I agree its in bad taste... not something I'd do. But its not exactly 'low balling'... if this rubs him wrong I'd recommend him not posting them on craigslist. lol

I fight to get the best deal, but if you agree on a price then that is the price unless the seller wants to cut you a better deal. If you wanted the lower price, you should have tried for that in the first place.

Imperfect thread label notwithstanding, he didn't post on CL, but rather this site's own classified section.

I don't know if Lowballers annoy me more, or if people who say "I want it, I'll take it, Let me know when I can come get them, _______" then never return calls/texts/PMs/etc.

      I think it's the tirekickers.

I would rather deal with a lowballer than the other folks. I have sat around at my house waiting on somebody to come and buy something and they never show.

Yeah...a bit of a dirtbag move as far as I'm concerned. On the bright side, better to find out sooner than later. It didn't cost you anything other than a bit of aggravation.

If he agreed to 1800 and has since tried to underhanded chiselling down to 1600 then 1500, tell him you will cut him a hell of a deal.......2500 + he pays shipping. Tell him it is a "handling the BS" fee. What a dirtbag.

I agree with raising the price to him. Its not like he's going to buy them anyway. Hopefully he finds this thread and realizes what piece he truly is. Some people don't know they are D-bags.

I had a guy set up a deal when I was selling a bike a few years back. The bike was worth at least 10,000 and I was asking 7,000 for it. We talked on the phone several times, he knew the price and was happy with it. I wasted the entire day waiting for him and he finally shows up. the first words out of his mouth are: I have 2500 in cash." he tried telling some bs story of his buddy who just bought the same bike for 2000 so 2500 was a good deal for me. Long story short, I told him no way and he left. But he called back about 5 times, each time raising his price. He finally calls and says, ok.... I'll pay the 7,000 for it, when do you want to do the deal. I told him the price has recently gone up to 10,000. He screams "are you Fing kiding me!" I say nope, a buddy of mine just saw the same bike sell for 11,000, so its a good deal for you. Probably not the most mature way to handle it, but it sure felt good to give that guy a taste of his own medicine. Luckily, I didn't need the money or I probably would have sold it to him.

I know, it doesn't help your situation. And mine was a craigslist ad, so its to be expected a little. But it sucks a bit more when you are a member of a community and you get this kind of stuff.

Its full of them out there! I mean, I do also try to get a better price on an ad but once a price is agreed its agreed.

I'm going to part out my BMW 540I and aguy was interested in the V8 and the six speed and we were talking about when he was going to pick it up for €2500, I then got a message where he offered to save me the job of lifting the engine and that he would take the whole car for €2500... yeah right...

Then its always fun if you are posting a part for like $150 and a guy sends you a message that the part is only worth $40 so he will give you that.

First, f!@# him. He's a schmoe and lacks integrity. Classic dickhead.

Second, I don't understand the term "lowballer" exactly. I know folks think it means being a douche and trying to get something for nothing, but what it really means is offering significantly less than something is worth in an effort to get a killer deal. And really, who doesn't want a killer deal? I figure whatever is offered is either what they think it's worth or what they can afford to pay. It's at your discretion whether you take it. And if they do what this dickhead did, you tell 'em to f-off and put 'em on your ignore list.

Now as for posting their screen name or real name, I think this is exactly where a buyer/seller feedback area would be useful to relay such experiences. So next time someone goes to sell/buy something they've got a heads-up on the kind of person they might be dealing with.

I was selling a set of Porsche Cup wheels/tires for a friend and ran into someone like this. The guy offered about 20% less than I was asking, which I accepted. After 2 phone calls, 5 e-mails and 10 pictures the guy came to look at the wheels. He left and said he would think about it. He e-mailed a few days later and asked for another 20% off, we agreed on 10% off. 2 days after we agreed on the final price, he e-mailed me and asked me to deliver them because he didn't want to drive 45 minutes to pick them up or get his car dirty.

      No sale.

I just sold a bunch of tools (my first generation set, if you will) on craigslist. Without exception, everybody I dealt with came through. They showed up on time, brought cash, had the right setup to haul the tools away, etc. It was a nice affirmation of the best of the human condition.

After that, my wife tried to sell some antique china sets she got from her elderly aunt, and we got some real bizarre responses. One lady who said she was traveling to England and would send a certified check and her moving company to come and pick it up. She lost interest when my wife told her the check would have to clear before the mover came.

Most transactions I have been involved in as the seller have been positive like your experiences. I'd like to think my experiences and actions as a buyer have been positive for the seller as well.

The wife's experience is a classic CL scam. People still fall for it years after it's been shown to be a scam.

The Nigerian Check scam. There is a whole website devoted to a guy who messes with these scammers. Google ebola monkey man, it is pretty funny stuff. We have a litter of puppies that we are trying to sell and I have had a few check scammers try to make a deal on the puppies. It is hard to believe the lengths people will go to.
