Help! Who knows someone at Barry Grant??!

Here's the deal, I just tried calling and their message is changed. It basically says " Hello and thank you for calling Barry Grant. As of Noon 2/18/2011 we have ceased operations due to economic downturn. Thank you and have a good day."

This didn't strike me as a spontaneous close up shop early on Friday type of message.

Um, how how do customers know if they will ever see their property again?

I was calling to check on a carb that is there.

Are there any insiders here that know more?

      thanks,

      Robert

      Here's more from PHR

      Barry Grant Carburetors: 1985-2011
This just in from Barry Grant. We’re very disappointed to hear that a great company has hit hard times. We wish Barry and his crew the best, and if the automotive aftermarket has its druthers, we suspect BG will reemerge soon, some how and some way. Ironically, FordMuscle get’s this message just two days after finally landing an ad contract with BG (after about 10 years of trying.)

      From Barry Grant
As of today, February 18, 2011 we are ceasing operations at our Dahlonega location and all subsidiary locations. Working with all of you has been the experience of a lifetime. I will value your support as friends, customers, vendors, and media contacts forever. The economic situation has put the company in the position of not being able to find working capital needed to continue operations and get a chapter 11 reorganization plan through the court. In addition to this, is that all of our equipment has been breaking down causing production delays and further hurting cash flow. Reluctantly now we must convert to chapter 7 liquidation after 26 years of business. The financial collapse has closed, or has caused severe restructuring of many companies in our industry. Many individuals have lost everything. We have even lost our home. This is the most humbling experience of my life, and I have no future plans at this point. Thank You for Your Many Years of Support.

      Thanks Kevin.

IF, you or anyone else ever runs into any challenges with your Demon I would consult Don Gould at 4 Seconds Flat

I realize that there are many people involved with much more at stake than me and my petty carburetor. While I am sympathetic to all that it sure doesn't feel good to be connected to any of it.

I'm on a shoestring budget as it is, I could have used the money I have invested in this carb elsewhere to further my project along and probably should have in hindsight. Who knows if I will see the carb or it's value again when Barry Grant states "Reluctantly now we must convert to chapter 7 liquidation after 26 years of business."

Jeff and myself were able to get everybodys parts out the door to them that we had addresses for. To my knowledge there were no customers carburetors left in the building and only a handfull of pumps where the sender had not included an address or phone number.

If it had anything that resembled an address we cut it loose and there was a lot of stuff that left no charge where customers had not/would not call back with credit cards. Barry wanted to make sure that there was no customers products left in the building and the company paid the shipping as well on anything that did not have credit card info.

I also understand that UPS was made aware to turn around anything coming in . I am sure there will be some that say they lost product but I can tell you we made a huge effort to scour the building and return parts.

btw I do not have a personal login on this board so am posting under the one I used while I was employed there.

Thank you! That's a huge comfort and I guess I'll have to wait and see.

As a customer on a snug fitting mystery budget the thought of a couple hundred dollar setback or loss is disappointing.

That said, It bears little significance when compared to the loss that all the people that made up Barry Grant are enduring.

I'm really sorry to hear of the situation and that you guys were displaced, it sounds like you provided great customer service right up to the end, even after the fact with your statement here to ease my mind. I hope that things work out so you can apply your skills and knowledge within the industry.

      All the best. Good Luck.

Good luck Tech @ BG, hope everything works out for you.

Robert, hope you get your carb. If it doesn't show up, I'm not sure you can do anything. I think the creditors usually get the piece of the pie first, and the consumers get left in the cold (along with the creditee).

I am even more confident that the folks at BG were doing their best right up to the last.

My carb had arrived at BG on Tuesday the 15th signed for by Gibson,
      Shipped on Thursday the 17th.
      Returned today.

I'd have been impressed with the turnaround under any circumstances.

The packing slip was marked as Warranty, Freight paid, and noted what was repaired, Flows good and reset to Spec.
      Works like butter again too.

Thank you Adam Cambell (tech listed on slip),
I wish you and the rest of the gang good luck and a very quick recovery.
