      Tech II Scanner

      Hello,

Are there any shops in the San Diego, CA area with a Tech II scanner that can scan my 1966 C10 truck that I put a LY6/6l90 into. I have not had any luck with MATCO or Tech/Force scanners. Dealership is asking ~ $160 just to scan for codes which I think is a little high or am I out of touch?

      Thanks in advance

      Robert

When I worked at Firestone we had some nice scanners. I don't remember who made them, but they might be willing to do it for cheap/free.

If a generic OBD2 isnt scanning the codes then a Tech2 wont. $160 is high unless that includes the diagnostics. When I worked for a Chevrolet dealership it was $30 if all you wanted was a code pulled, and the SI2000 print out for that code. We had the lot boys do it.

If all you want is the codes any OBD2 tool should work.

I'm actually looking for the transmission codes. I get a P0700 with a generic scanner and John from Speartech said I need to dig deeper into the transmission to see what codes the TCM are setting. The $160 is the dealership flat rate when I contacted them. I just needed the codes so it is a little hard to swallow the price for a 5 minute task. I did find another dealership cheaper but they were still asking $100. $30 does seem more appropriate to me.

The Snap On Verus scan tool is pretty good about pulling TCM codes. Every Pep Boys will have one and they will scan for free. You just have to find the person that knows how to use it.
