      63 MPG on the Highway

      Just Not Our Highways

The just-launched Mini Cooper Countryman can get 63 MPGs highway – just not on our highways.
Like so many other diesel-powered vehicles, it's not available in the United States. Instead we get gas-electric hybrids like the Toyota Prius – which maxes out at 48 MPGs on the highway.
      It's very strange.

Of course, because hybrids are so great for the earth, right?
All that nickel mining doesn't really count as part of the Prius' carbon footprint, right?

      Efffin joke.

Do you still believe in all the things that you stood by before? Are you out there on the front lines, or at home keeping score?
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate? Would you rather be the architect of what we might create?

SURPRISE hybrids are crap on the highway because they just turn back into a regular car hauling around a ton of extra weight!

I WANT MY TURBO DIESEL HYBRID ALREADY.

I seem to remember a lot of talk about small diesel engined cars coming to the USA when the last big hike in gas prices hit. I thought there was going to be diesel half ton trucks too. Maybe if prices go way up again this summer, they will finally start offering them here. I know VW has the TDI powered little cars but what about everybody else?
I am not useless, I can still be used as a bad example!

The BMW 335d looks pretty sweet! An aluminum-block, twin-turbo diesel that redlines at 5k??? Yes, please!

I would love to replace my 48-52 MPG TDI in on a Mini Countryman. Import more diesels already!

I'd much rather have a small turbo diesel in my Silverado 1500 than the 5.3 that's in there. I too will be glad when the US market has more clean and efficient diesel vehicles available.
