      Fenders are off... inside paint?

Fenders are off and I was wondering what to use on the inside of the fenders for painting/covering purpose. It appears the stock fender was just black. So maybe a lil' rust removal then some RustMort then paint it with some Eastwood chassis black? Suggestions? Also where should I tape off for the body color and the engine compartment color. I believe I've seen it two ways. The entire fender painted body color and then just the first upper most seam where the hood rests painted body color and everything below that black. The compartment will be black.
      Thanks.

Thanks tb. That would definitely take care of the rust issue.

I think to make the fender look "finished", body color should be applied all the way
to where the fender meets the wheel well. Paint everything underneath else a satin black.

There are 2 factors in Autocross, Tires and the loose nut behind the wheel.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be using some RustSeal and then coating it with the Eastwood underhood black...20% sheen. left over from the engine compartment. Just a lil' extra protection for them!

I painted my 67 RS fenders back in 1985 and they never rusted with a single stage automotive paint. I started my conversion to pro-touring back in 2005, but the fenders didn't have any rust in 20 years. The black that you are seeing is actually e-coat, that was the factory coating.

There is a company called Magnet paints and they have a product called chassis saver. You can get it in gloss black or antique satin black which is pretty much semi gloss. This stuff is amazing! You can use it directly on bare metal and it is a rust protectant. I have a restoration shop and that is all we use on frames and under hoods.

On my '87 I separated the outer skin from the inner fender and spent some time with a wire wheel/brush, grinder, spot blaster etc. to get rid of the rust. I then just sprayed a coat of primer on it and then applied three coats of sprayable sound deadening and a layer of dynamat on top of that.

You tap on the fender now and it's like tapping on granite.

Yeah, that was one of the things I hated when washing my car. You get the hose hitting the front fenders and you could just tell how thin the sheet metal was. :(
      Not anymore.
