      What does this engine weigh?

I did search, but came up empty handed. I'm sure some of you here know the facts, or know where to get them. I'm thinking we could put together something of an information resource on engines one is likely to find between the fenders of a pro-touring beast...

And of course, find an answer to my particular question...

What do 396 engines as came in SS Chevelles weigh?

I read a small detail somewhere that olds bigblocks were significantly lighter then chevy's. True? Untrue?

Thanks for posting that...I googled for a while and didn't find anything as good as that.

Wow. 685 for the 396 then? Would that be with a cast iron intake? What is the weight difference between a cast iron and aluminum intake for the BBC?

Wow. I'm slightly underwhelmed. I would have expected a much bigger difference then that. :o

Is most of the weight in the block? Aluminum heads probably nets you 30lb a side?

There is definetly a bigger diffrence in weight than 2lbs between a cast iron and an alluminum bbc intake. I am not sure on exact weights I would guess alluminum intake is probably 25-30lbs lighter.

Look at this site http://www.rcboat.com/Brian's%20stuff/camaro_database.htm and it list alluminum bbc intake weight but nothing for cast iron. But if you look at a sbc cast iron intake it says 40lbs and I know a bbc intake is heavier as i have lifted more than a couple of them.
