      LS factory AC compressor question

I have a book called "How to swap GM LS-Series Engines Into Almost Anything"

And in it there is a section on accessory drives and cooling systems. And it states this:

The factory A/C compressor is a climate-controlled unit, and this ut runs if the A/C is on. The compressor does not cycle on and off when the A/C is running, and this style of compressor only works with the late model factory style A/C system. Don't run the stock compressor on an aftermarket A/C system because it won't operate properly, and it will likely freexe the lines. if you install an aftermarket A/C system, you need to use a Sanden compressor.

OK So if I put an LS motor in an 86 Monte SS will it work properly, or freeze the lines. Or will the stock Monte setup control the compressor & turn it on & off properly?

I think this thread will answer your question. From what I understand, you cannot use the factory compressor in a swap.

Your Monte would have come stock with a cycling system. As such, the LS1 F-body compressor wouldn't be viable long term. Short term it will work, long term it's simply not reliable.

Anyone know if the L92 AC compressor is the same as that used on a 2003 1500 HD silverado LQ4? Truck needs a new one, would be nice if they are the same.

I had an 02 1500HD and there were at least two different compressors available for it and all a little different. I'm getting the feeling that my serpentine system from my L92 isn't going to bring very good money...

Most LS compressors are mechanical variable displacement. They are made to work at different pressures than standard compressors. They will not work well with the older style system If you want to keep stock compressor location, you can substitute a trailblazer ss compressor. For whatever reason, it's a positive displacement. Most aftermarket AC makers have adapter fittings.

I'm debating putting an L92 in the Monte so the stock AC compressor location of the L92 will not work for me. I'm hoping that the L92 unit is the same as the one on my LQ4 truck. It took a dump last year.
