      Clutch Inhibitor switch

So I'm re wiring my car and the instead of relaying the big Purple wire to my Neutral safety switch on the trans can I just get switch on the clutch pedal? Not sure if this would work or not..

I would like to have the feature of needing the pedal pushed in since I've yet to put in a pair of emergency cables for the brakes.

Let me know what your thoughts are..

Wiring in that fashion shouldn't be an issue, you simply need to know how your neutral safety is currently working and how to replicate that using a switdh.
Are you using a GM PCM? If so, which one?
I'm not sure about the LS2/tko, however with my LS1/T56 combo from an F-body, the Clutch Petal Position switch grounds out pin 32 of the C1 connector of the PCM. When this switch is closed (petal pushed in) the starter is allowed to run.

Im not going to wire it through my PCM just using the the original style 10 gauge purple wire. I talked American Autowire and they said that this switch would work perfectly in addition to their harness plugging right into it..

      Thanks for the help

If your car is a 70 Nova with original pedals, there's probably already a switch at the upper end of the pedal assembly under the dash.
It's a round switch that has a lever that rotates with the pedal. The car was originally wired as you describe.

Nope I added a stick to it. The AAW wiring harness gives me options to either use the neutral switch at the column or down by the transmission. I've heard the switch at the tranmission can not handle the current from the the purple wire, since I dont have an e-brake anyways I would have to be in the car to start it.

AAW will sell me the switch its $44.00.

The original one bolted to the clutch/brake cross bolt and had a lever that rode on a pin that stuck out to the left of the cluch arm, right under the bolt. No mods needed. Just find one on ebay or a repro. I even have a spare used one.

I used the factory NSS from my 69 camaro. Running AAW harness with stock 69 pedals, T56 with 4th gen camaro hydraulics. I just used the AAW connectors to connect them. Both the AAW wires and the factory NSS wires are purple. I bought a linkage kit with new rod, bushings, and clips. Works well. Scott

Just thinking...my 72 Olds has a switch as I described. But my 68 corvette has the separate switch with a rod linkage like the camaro. A quick google search shows the nova has a different setup from both.

Thanks for that picture..I was thinking it looked similar to the brake lamp switch since there is a hole there for it. Now I know how to mount it, didnt realize it was a pull through design...

Thanks for all the advise guys and helping me out..

I don't even have that NSS in my Nova. I might have to get me one.
