      heres what i done did

been awhile, dont think i've ever posted an update, finally been workin on the 'ol bird.
heres my garage. the N/A turbo, piston rotary battle face to face

so i decided to make new seat mounts. started tearing out the old seat mount, found the stock frame mount was in the way, so me and my buddy came up with a solid plate mount. this bugah is stong as hell. we were lifting floor to seal the gap to weld the plate, and with less than half the plate welded, we saw the whole car lifting.

the angle iron is the going to be the mounts for the seat tabs

time to go with solid bushings

bought my buddys seats from the silver rx-7

they fit perfect and are super comfy

rebuilt 400, .030 over. selling to my dad to fund my LS2/t-56

      heres my dads '68 400/4spd

rear end dropped and trunk cut out. ready for a 9in and 4link. trunk pan removed to skin it flush, for a drop in fuel cell

started workin a a tubb last weekend. im gonna see how much frame rail i need to keep intact for the 4link, then cut the rear legs off and relocate them inboard to keep a full frame rail, unlike the dse's method, dont like the idea of cutting and filling in the notch.

bought my wheels today. C6 ZR1 18x9.5 and 19x12 wrapped with 275/35/18-345/30/19 michelin PS2s. adaptors in the front and custom width 9in makes up the difference in the rear.

well. thats all i got now. these post will get more and more intense in the following months. get ready for a gutted track bird.

What 4 link are you going to run? Post more pics of the bird

i was lookin at doin a custom 4 link. gonna buy all the individual bars, spherical ends and brackets-make some custom ones too. need some shock axel brackets, gotta make an upper shock crossmember, for a set of koni custom valved double adj coil overs on all four corners.

shorttrack-hell yeah, its a cool car. so fun to drive, love how stock it is. we bought that to be my highschool car, hammerd, turns out he wanted to restore it for himself. so i got my firebird instead. stoked we got pontiacs. cant wait to smash on him when we go cruisin.

there is nothing wrong with wheel adapters. They have been in use for a LONG time and have had plenty of real world testing.

wheel adapters are not the same as wheel spacers, which are dangerous.
but IMHO I would just get wheels w/ the proper offset.

i havent heard anything bad about wheel adaptors, and no stories of wheels falling off. i saw nothing against them in the scca guidelines.
well, these were the biggest, widest, wheels i could afford, that look ****in sick, without having customs made or spend mad change on a set. Love the positive offset, flush look.

      got the wheels tonight!!!!!
      Oh my, these are wide.

ordered my AFX spindles yesterday with pro-lite arms from SC&C. Marks a G, cool guy to talk to.

Lately i've just been trying to sort out what im gonna do next with my car. Thought i was set on going with a 3link, but just got curious and started thinking about stuffing a C5 irs cradle under the rear with the transaxle. I was going to move my framerails in, and replace them with some parallel profiled rails to fit my tubs. With the amount of work i'm already doing, making the IRS fit isnt to much more. Thought of putting in a crossmember to catch the frame rails however far they move in for the cradle and UCA's, and to also attach subframe connectors(dip down in trunk is cut out and will be flush, profile rails follow the design of the floor as is, but run parallel instead of flaring out like stock)

Still figuring out the dimensions of the cradle and hub width, i would prefer keeping everything tucked in the stock sheetmetal. I havent seen a flare on a '69 i like, and would rather not have to mess with the fiberglass front clip to match the rear.

finished up the drivers side floor pan frame mount/seat mount, need to align the brackets and finish the rear mounts to get my seats in.

cut out my dash, and got my heater delete started.

desided to go with a full cage to increase torsional rigidity, with my stock seat mounts gone, i gained a bit of head room by the roof rails. so i just gotta keep the cage tight.

as soon as i get working on my cage with the front down bars i can start mocking up my front coil overs. plan to cut out a half moon shape from the subframe and base the coil overs off the down bars.

well lots of planning and figuring out going on, heres the goods

C5 IRS would be pretty cool. You may want to contact Rodger at Ironworks as they have done a number of c5/6 installs in older cars. Granted they did custom tube chassis but maybe he can verify your plans or point out any mistakes now before you get half way into the job. Just a thought. Keep up the good work.

thanks. my friends dad has a c5 Z, been trying to get some measurements off it.

WS6- do you have his munber by chance?, i'll look him up. seen some projects of theirs, and daaaaaaang, they know their s%^t.

i was either gonna do a HUGE engine recess, to distribute weight, the transaxle will distribute more than i could hope for with a recess. would be sweet if i could use a stock torque tube with a minor recess. we'll see. i'm gonna try to get as many dimensions, and talk to rodger before i buy anything. stoked on the idea though.

yeah dom i was hoping my positive offsets would help me squeeze the irs in there. but nope, tires stick out an 1" beyond the fenders, according to my friends dads outside of tire-to-outside of tire measurement. still determined, and cant wait for this setup on the track.

just thinking of 4 corner koni's and Zbrakes keeps me from being depressed. oh and a 6speed. oh and an LS2. dreams will come true
