question I cant find an answer to... stock subframe

A little history- I bought a stock subframe for my 67 Camaro for $200 about six months ago from a guy that rebuilds cars. Got it back 'home' (my barracks at Ft Hood) and realized there was a reason mud was packed in the frame horns. They were both smashed in and rusty. I have no idea what happened to it so I am back at square one I think.

I plan on using the car as a good weather dd with occasional time at the track if I get a chance and a few runs at the 1/4 once and a while. I am basically looking for a car that handles well but not a full on race car. I am already planning 35k on the project with bodywork, motor, suspension, trans, interior etc.

Now my question is, where is a good reliable source for a straight clean usable subframe without spending $1500 for an aftermarket replica!

Also, what are some good control arms for a decent price? Im thinking QA1 coil overs to go with GW, Chassisworks control arms?? I have not really found what I am looking for but it may not exist... Any help on this would be appreciated.

Any advice on the whole front and rear suspension would be appreciated as I tend to go for top of the line when I do my research, I usually miss the middle quality but affordable section haha!

Sorry if this has been gone over a hundred times, I just cant find it for some reason...

Is there something wrong with your stock subframe?

well the original from when I bought the car I did something very stupid with... I sold it the same day I picked up the car. there were several reasons but long story short I should have kept it as it was in good shape from what I remember. The one I purchased is crap and Ill be better off buying a new one rather than trying to fix what I have as far as I can tell...

They are relatively easy to find in Texas. Watch Craigslist.

If I had a budget like that (and a First Gen camaro) I would go DSE subframe and suspension all in one package.

yes it is expensive but it is the subframe and all the suspension pieces including power rack and pinion steering, coil overs and upper and lower tubular control arms. The only thing missing is brakes and any kit that works for a C5 vette will bolt on. So you can go from mild to wild with those. It also allows you to run 10" wide wheel up front while retaining the inner fenders ( manufactures claim). As far as I know theirs is the only one that does this. I would guess that by the time you source all the parts subframe included you would be close to the price, and still not have an engineered setup like this one.

for control arms I recommend these https://www.pro-touring.com/showthre...trol-Arms-Sale
great quality at an extremely reasonable price. I would also recommend using tall spindles like our Pro Billet spindles or at the very least tall upper ball joints. and for coilovers I recommend using the ridetech coilovers.
as for the rear suspension I would use the ridetech Airbar but with coilovers instead of shockwaves. We only sell what we install. Feel free to pm me or give us a call to discuss your options and pricing in depth.

      MuscleRodz- pm sent...

L & H Kustoms- which would be better for my application, tall ball joints or your spindles? I was planning the Gmod on the stock subframe but I have been out of research for a while and it seems theres two more options that might be easier/better...

for your application I would recommend tall spindles if they're in the budget. if not then I would go with the tall ball joints which will get you about 60% of the gain compared to a tall spindle. I would however recommend our geometry corrected steering arms to get rid of the unwanted bumpsteer no matter what you decide for the front. they are a bolt on to our tall spindles or stock spindles and fix the bumpsteer as well as quicken the steering ratio as well as they are designed after the highly sought after Z/28 "short" steering arm.

Well my budget is kinda funny in that right now I cant really afford much. My idea is to get what I can when I can, this does not mean I want to skimp out on quality. At the same time I dont want a full on race car. I am willing to spend, but I want to spend what I need to where I need to in order to have a car that handles well, has the stance I want, and doesnt detract from other aspects of my build. If it takes a bit longer to save and get what I need to do what I want to do I dont mind, I just am a savvy consumer and like to do it right the first time for something like this, no stopgap measures for this car...

L&H- Ok, tall spindles sounds like the right move for me then. I am basically going for the best parts for my application as I stated above, so my budget is somewhat flexible. I will reply more in depth in a pm. A question for you here however, anyone feel free to chime in, but am I correct in that depending on the backspace I can run an 8 maybe 9 inch wide wheel with the stock subframe? I am still forming ideas here but I am curious as I have an idea what Id like out of the car... and I am considering all my options.

Thanks for the help and input guys! Feel free to give more input and sharpshoot me! lol
