That would be a good buy if you are able to make the trip down to Lee Manufacturing (the guys who built the thing), located in Los Angeles. They can do a full inspection and revalve it for your application. I have a Lee box myself and the steering feel is amazing...no worse than a late model car.

Talking about a Lee box. i have a question myself im useing the DSE powersteering pump with the remote oil resevroir and the lee pump,
in combination with a Hydra boost system from hydratech.
We are going to put 16 x 12x25 tires on the frond of the car!!.
I did have a problem when racing with my former set up, where the pump started to wine afther 20 min of racing.
they told me to put a flow ristricktor on the pump. witch i havend done yet.
I like to know if this Lee/Dse pump hydra boost combo is up to the task with that kind of meat up front!!! for longer periods of time. i do have a il cooler that wil be used. as wel...

That is a good deal, as I saw it on Ebay as well. I called Lee Mfg. to inquire about it, and was told the box would be fine, but NASCAR boxes have no steering stops. Not good for a street car.

I dont believe the ebay box is a 600 series box. I think it is a 800 series box. This is a pic of a 600 series box. Attachment 43096

^^x2, you are correct; the ebay pic looks like an 800 series.
Here is a side-by-side pic of the stock 800 series compared to the 670 series that Lee blueprints.
And it is worth every penny IMO.

What does Lee charge to rebuild a 600 box? I have one in my '64 Corvette.

I am in the middle of looking for a steering box as well. Have you considered going with the Jeep Grand Cherokee swap? I am having a tough time deciding between that and a Lee box, which is probably better, but considerably more expensive.

It's tough to beat a lee Manufacturing steering box, either the 600 or 800 series will work. I've read that the 600 series has better on center feel, but when I talked to Tom Lee, he felt they were a little too twitchy for his tastes, but great for Auto -X and other racers. Don't "try to light a smoke and steer the car in rush hour freeway traffic" to paraphrase what he mentioned.

I actually just got an e-mail back from them(within about an hour and a half no less) that I'll copy over for ya'll. This was in response to me asking about a rebuild on an 800 series box with conversion to 12.7:1 and a specific valving.

Hello Robert thanks for e-mailing us to rebuild the steering gear its $230.00 that's seal and o-ring any hard parts are more and that means if we get the steering gear apart and threes a crack in the sector shaft or the piston we replace it but we don't know until we get it apart we also recommend to rebuild the power steering pump to that's $ 130.00 seals and o-rings any hard parts are more the biggest problem with putting a new gear is the contamination with the oil in the pump and the pump is the heart of the system so just think about that when your ready to do the rebuild thanks again for e-mailing us Charlie @ lee power steering

This is now on the short list. Except for the pump, I'll be getting a brand new aluminum pump.

I was going to get a Lee box but I stumbled across a Sweet mfg. 12:1 box for a great price. The sweet box I have handles excellent. I have heard nothing but good stuff for the Lee as well.

So I have a brand new Lee box that I want to install in my Camaro... Do I need to put a new pump in even if my system is working perfectly fine now? The only reason I'm changing it is to hopefully get rid of the dead area in the middle of my box.

It is a good idea for them to go through the box and make sure it is set to flow properly for the steering box. An improper pressure can damage your steering box, sometimes rather quickly.
