      connecting rod splitter

Before I go buy one of these for about $100 does anyone know of a better way or a cheap homemade trick? I build about 4-6 motors a year and every time have trouble getting the caps apart to assemble. Aftermarket rods are almost impossible. I like having tools, but I am flat running out of space for all the specialty stuff!

      Greg,
I use a copper rod about four inches long and half inch diameter, i stick it in the hole and "bang" it on the cap until it loosens, I keep the nuts or bolts threaded a bit in or let i fall on a couple shop rags on the table.
