      6L80 Question...ANYone using it?

I've been searching here and LS1 tech and cannot find anything conclusive. Lots of people throwing around figures, measurements, etc but I haven't seen anyone with an A-body say they have the 6L80 and what it took to use it...is there any ground clearance? Have they driven it? yada yada yada.

So...is there anyone here who has installed the 6L80 and what did you do? I realize trans tunnel surgery is required but do you still have clearance problems after the surgery? I also realize ride height is different with each car and that is why Im looking for someone who has done it to see what they have and how it compares to my car. I'm basically looking at the physical install. Not the electronics aspect of it as it will be matched with its original engine if I choose to go that route.

What about shifter? What are you using?

If you have done it...please post your story?

      Thank you!

I've seen one in person-it's freakin massive...you'll have clearance issues with the floorpan for sure, linkage nightmares, sectioning the floor will be required to get it higher in the trans tunnel so that it aligns ideally with the engine in an A-body. To my knowledge, there are no aftermarket performance parts for it available yet so it better be stout in stock form.

      Just saw this thread.

Best information I've found on 6L80/90E is on LS1Tech in Hybrid/conversion section. There are several builds using them, and you will want to read those also. There is a lot of misinformation on them too, so read Mast Motor Sports build thread as their LS1 - 2 ECM can communicate with 6L80/90E's internal trans Controller.

Thread you might find most informative is one below. Should cover most of your questions.

I have a build with a 6L80E there also. Trying to get it finished up now.

I always wanted one of these behind a fuelinjected buick 350, but no one has done it yet..sad thing its easier to install an aa80e 8-spd auto from a lexus is-f then it is to mate a gm 6l80e heh

twin-turbo fuel injected buick 350..perhaps stroked to 370 in the works!

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately I am still wondering if someone with an A body has done it and is driving? Was it worth the work? Were you able to keep the factory look inside with console? What did you use for a shifter?

Poorhousenext...I read your thread at LS1tech. You and the 68 Camaro are the only ones I've seen doing the swap (documenting it) but neither of you have it driving and it looks that both of you are building some sweet, yet custom, cars. I'm more interested in the fit and function in an otherwise stock appearing car.

I suppose at this point it doesn't matter as I have committed to buying an LS2/4L70 from Travis. (Cannot wait!) I considered the LS3 6L80 but the lack of info scared me away. It would be great having the transmission. I always thought I would do the T56 conversion but...I guess not.

      Thanks again
