1969 z28 info help from the guru's plz

we have 3 1969 z28's at work right now. one is supposed to have the "x30" option. for my own curiosity i want to know what this code means. the other 2 are both vinyl top rs/z-28's and they both have x33 on the cowl tag. i found out from tony (nineball) that the x55 is the ss option. the one that is supposed to be an x30 is not an rs, it was also an original auto trans car.

also can anyone send me some detailed pics of the chambered exhaust system i need to know hanger locations and pipe routing etc....

If it was an original auto trans first gen, it wouldn't be a Z28, all of them were 4 speeds.

that is what i thought. i looked closer today and both other cars have a rough cut hole in the floor and a column shift steering column.

does anyone know what the x30 code means?

X30 is a rare Z28 convertible. X30 Z28 convertibles came with automatic transmissions and A/C.

X11 - Style Trim Group (includes SS350)
X22 - Style Trim Group with SS396(black rear panel)
X33 - Style Trim Group with Special Performance Equipment(Z28)
X44 - Base Car
X55 - Base car with SS350(rear fender louvers, black body sill*)
X66 - Base car with SS396(rear fender louvers, black rear panel, black body sill*)
X77 - Base car with Special Performance Equipment (Z28)
Z11 - Indy Pace Car Accents
Z10 - Indy Pace Car Accents - Hardtop
D80 - Air Spoiler Equipment (when used - not all cars built with spoilers were coded)

Style Trim Group was included in the Rally Sport Option and consisted of fender striping(except when Sport Striping or Z28 is specified), simulated rear fender louvers, front and rear wheel opening moldings, black body sill*, rear panel emblems, bright headlight and taillight accents. The Sport Coupe included bright roof drip moldings.

* = Except colors 51 Dusk Blue, 57 Fathom Green, 61 Burnished Brown, and 67 Burgundy

Note: Camaro SS included rear fender louvers and black body sill*. Black rear panel was included with 396 engine. Z11 and Z10 included orange hood, deck, and fender striping and deleted the black body sill and rear panel with 396 engine.

The X number can be located below the paint number. However, only Norwood cars from N544001 to end of production will include the X codes. Early Norwood and all LA cars will not have this designation on the trim tag.

I've never heard of an X30 option, and to my knowledge there was only one first generation convertible Z-28 built and that was in 68. There was also a rumor that one was built in 69, but nobody can verify.

best bet would be to take a pic of the cowl tag and post it on cameros.net. Super friendly folks and the absolute authorities on 1st gens. I mean seriously, they know everything. Everything.

Sounds like the car is an LA built car and the X30 is just part of the trim tag on LA cars with no real meaning to it. What is the VIN or partial VIN? Those cars with automatics are not real Z28's, they were all 4 speed cars with power disc brakes.

i double checked they were all x33 cars from norwood according to the tag. they were all also automatic cars.(torched openings in the trans tunnel, and column shift linkage on the column under the hood).

were the power 4 wheel disc or front disc rear drum?

Gen3.... the column arm you see under the hood is probably for the reverse lockout on a 4 speed. Is there a shift indicator in the dash ? The muncie 4 speed 69 Camaros that used Hurst shifters had the shifter holes cut with a torch from the factory.
