I will take some pics later for the photoshop....in fact I would like some chops of this car with a 315 tire and both Cobra R and Bullitt wheels (both in silver). Can you help?

I have seen the Griggs Racing setup and agree that it is pricy...plus you can not run the exhaust over the rear with the watts link.

Right now I am considering buying the air ride (or fabricating a copy) mounting assembly without the air bag shocks. This is a triangulated 4 bar design that does not require a panhard bar or watts for lateral control. I would run either Bilstein, Koni or QA1 coil overs in place of the air bags. The only welding absolutely required is on the rear end housing for the upper bar attachements. This way you could test verify the design for proper handling and then fully weld into the chassis.

re the air ride design...the tire clearance gained from this setup will likely only allow no more than a 315 tire to fit. This is because the lower bar connects to the original front leaf spring mount. For a little extra clearance this bar could be offet a little to the inside of the car.

How about this idea for an inexpensive coil over conversion....why not modify the original lower shock mounting plate for the lower bar (or weld on a traction master bracket)....connect the front of this bar to the front leaf spring mount....mount the coil over shock in the original shock position...for the upper bar chassis mounts fab a bracket like the air ride one that bolts to the snubber mount and sandwiches in between the upper shock mount...again the bolt in of this bracket could be temporary until everything is proven before fully welding it in or maybe leaving it as a bolt in...also a solid spacer between shock mounting plate and rear end housing spring perch would maintain the same ride height as the leaf spring did.

still need to modify the inner wheel housing by moving it flush with the inner frame rail...

Sure, im not a photoshop expert, but I can give you an idea.

On the air-ride - Seems like that would be a good way to go as far as exhaust fitment. The only problem with that setup is that mustangs have used it since forever (79?) and usually to optimize the setup, people go for a panhard bar or something to get some side-side stability as the 4 link setup was a little sloppy. Im not sure what AR does, but OE 4-link used a rear swaybar as well.

I also would like rear exhaust, but I've almost given up on it. All of the options that would allow a 315 tire and pretty good handling leave no room for exhaust :(

Wonder if there is room for a rear suspension design like the 05 Mustang has?

Theres plenty of room to be made..."smiles wisely as he installs a new blade into Sawsall" Most set ups can be modified to run a panhard instead.

What they do is triangulate the upper arms to give you lateral control
without the panhard bar or watts link.

Since this car is so close to being finished I do not want to start cutting on it now, maybe in the future (the Martz 4 link coil over conversion for $1250 seems like a bargain).

But I am itching to repalce my Cobra R wheels with something else before I finish the car and it would be nice to go a little bigger in the back at the same time. Since my budget is limited I have been considering 17" Bullitt wheels using the same 275/40 rear tire that I already have. These wheels are available in a 17 x 10.5 but with the 315 tire will not work without the surgery discussed in this thread.

While crusing Ebay I came across these 18x10 Mustang FR500 wheels. These wheels are simlar to the big dime Forgeline wheels on steve1969ls1's new Camaro but at a fraction of the cost at less than $600 for a set! Combine this with a 295/35 tire and I think it will fit without any major mods since. This is basically the same height as my 275/40-17 tire and the section width is .7" narrower than the 315/35-17 tire. And since the .7" is more than the 315/35-17 tire needed for clearance these should fit. What do you guys think?
