      315 TIRE/68 Mustang

Well sorta...this thread would be more approriate in the suspension section because that is what it is going to take to get this to fit. The leaf springs will have to be replaced with a 4-link coil-over setup...and the inner wheelhouse move flush with the frame rail...

Why not mini tub, and use your leafs? BTW that tire looks killer under there. Glad to know I'm not the only mustang owner who wants this look.

It does look killer and I want this look in a very bad way si I bought this used tire on Ebay just to mock it up.

The leaf springs would still have to be relocated inboard at least 1" and I do not see an easy way to move the front spring mounting point. Any ideas? I could make some offset spring hangers (ala the DSE offset shackles) for the back. Because of this I thought it would be easier to fabricate a 4 link coil-over design. A swedish dude at www.viking mustang.com has designed a simple almost-bolt-in set up that is interresting...

I placed the tire in the wheelhouse at the same location as the 275/40-17 tire I normally run on this car. So the tire in the pic is hitting the leafs and the front of the inner wheelhouse.

Surely there are shops in the Dallas area that can do a mini-tub in your car. I am in Houston and there are several I would not hessitate to use. I really hated to spend the money to have it done, because I knew I could do it. Anyway, I had a guy help me out with mine and took pictures the whole way through. Unfortunately it was not the prettiest of jobs. I do not know what your going to have invested in your car, but I would recommend getting a reputable shop to do it. More that likely my body guy is going to clean alot of it up. But if it involves too much work or money, I told him I wanted a tube chassis with a new LS7 motor. It sucks a little that there aren't any quick tub kits offered to mustangs.

If I was to take it to someone it would probably be Mike Minnettes shop in North Dallas.

Did you already mini-tub your car? If so then how did you mount the front of the leaf springs? I would love to see some of the pics...

My car is almost done. I will finish it with a 275/40 tire....some time next year I will do the deed and probably do it myself.

I searched all over for a tub kit, but found nothing. My fastback is tubbed, but I am going to be running a monoleafs not 4 link. It's great that there are kits coming out to ease this job. Not that I'll have the only fastback w/315's or 335's, but I might have to speed this project up a bit.

there was a black 65/66 fastback in a mag w/335's (18" TTII's)....the proportions did not look right...it definitely was not the same "look" taken on by first gen camaros with this much tire...Ill find the mag and post it later...

Don't know how the yeck I've missed that article. I think it looks good, but might be a little over powering. It might look better with a little more baskspacing though. That's basically the exact car I am starting on building, but a 67. I'm just trying to decide if I should narrow my rear end, or go with a more modern looking less aggressive 8" backspacing. Anyone have any pics of this wheel combo on an old stang?

Been looking at various kits out there, as I am going to eliminate the leafs as well for a planned 315 www.griggsracing.com has a watts link setup for about $3k that looks tempting.... just a lot of dough.

post a pic of just the car without the tire too and Ill try to photoshop the tire pushed into the wheelwell a little more to see what its going to look like
