      68 Firebird/Camaro Semi-Pro Touring

Hi everybody, neat site you guys have here! I just purchased a 68 Firebird in very tattered condition that I would like to build as a modified daily driver. Thought I would post her in hopes to get some solid advice and
Looking to modernize it to be comparable to a newer Camaro with better:suspension, 4 wheel dics, larger wheel/tires, and thinking along the lines of a LS2 power plant. The plan is to do as much as the work myself and leave the paint work to my friend who is a pro painter.
I have restored a few Chevelles frame off and look forward to getting this going. May need to sell my 72 454 BB Monte 1st to help fund this project so this is looking like a few years to get this going.
I will look forward to hearing your comments, advice, and sugesstions to parts/books/websites.
      Thanks,
      Salty, aka Mark

      Welcome to the site!
      Sounds like a good plan.

If you’re suggesting sending men with weapons of war to take my weapons of war, then I’m fairly certain that’s what’s called an act of war… and the definition of tyranny.which coincidentally is the reason for the second amendment to begin with!

I was almost ready to buy a brand new Chevy Camaro but decided I wanted a 1st gen car fixed up instead. I figure with gas prices in the future will be high so this may be my last hurrah at driving a cool car everyday on the road, then its geek mobile gas mizers.
I have a lot of questions about what I want to do thyis car but right now my focus is on the suspension since I need to get the subframe back underneath to do any work on the trunk pans, quarters, and such. Not sure if i should buy an aftermarket subframe or just weld the seams on my OEM unit and add better parts. Gulstrand mod maybe? Not sure how street friendly this mod is. Keep in mind that I plan to drive this daily for about 7-8 months out of the year. What would you guys suggest for a suspension? If there are threads that you guys know of to read, thats cool too. I am new so my search skills are coming up with lots of results for camaros/firebirds built in 04-07. I know that there are different options on the market since then. I appreciate any advice you guys can give.
      Thanks,
      Salty

Sounds like a great project. If you hang around here long enough, it won't stay "semi" pro touring for long.

Thanks for the encouragement and the cool pics too! Right now I am focusing on what suspension to use: stock with extra welds & upgrades or an aftermarket stub that is ready to bolt in, hmmm? I also have been watching for an LS motor on the cheap and just remembered my friend owns a yard, maybe time for a good guy deal on a mill. I want to try the new generation engines after building many variations of the SBC and BBC.
