The two things to look for in any quality oil is film strength and rate of evaporation. I use Mobil 1 and it is rated @ 1200 psi and 450 degrees respectively-conventional oil of any grade rates @ 350 psi and 230 degrees on average. A lot of other "synthetics" don't give out their data though which leads some to wonder about their quality at least in my mind. I've personally drove 4 vehicles over the years with temps pegged out, no coolant and drove for an average of 15 minutes each like that with no engine damage after fixing the coolant issue. That's proof enough for me.
