About to start a project

Hey guys, I've been reading this site for a while now (mostly project updates), and I'm now at a stage in my life where I'm mentally and financialy fit to start working on a project car.

I have been around cars my entire life, but I've never tackled the task of building my own engine and was looking for some insight on setups that would get me to my goals.

I was hoping to get a 396 block and build it for 12s, but reliable enough to drive more than average and on trips. Something about a big block I guess. I'm not looking for perfect inside and out, but more of a car I can drive to the track and back.

If you guys have info on possible setups to get to that goal please let me know or tips on building my first engine would be greatly appreciated too.

Well you wont be financially or mentally fit after your project gets started so enjoy the time now, just kidding . welcome to the site. If you can give a few more details about your project im sure people and offer some advice. What is your budget would be the bigggest question consideration.
