      Chevelle Parking Brake Cables

A while back I purchased a rear disc kit for my '66 Chevelle from a company called Touring Classics. With the kit came a nice set of parking brake cables that adapted the factory parking brake pedal to the rear calipers.

Compared to my El Camino with Lokar parking brake cables, the set up on the Chevelle actually works!

I was thinking about getting the same cable setup for the El Camino but I recently discovered Touring Classics is no longer in business.

Does anyone know of a company that might have a similar cable setup?

There are lots of companies who can build some cables for you to your specs. You need to give them your measurements, though. There's probably a company near you who can make them for you. Search "control cables" for your area. Or, there is a company in California that is called Control Cables, Inc. That can do it for you. http://store.controlcables.com/servlet/StoreFront

Another option is that if you have a parts man at your local store who is willing to let you look through his book you might find something that will work.

I had a set of the Touring Classics cables - nice product!

Thanks for this info! If I can't find a ready made set up like Touring Classics sold, then I'll go this route.

Sorry for taking so long to reply... I have the mid-90's Camaro rear calipers. They're part of the Baer Touring rear kit.

Would those be the same or similar to the Lokar cables that I just removed?

Without seeing them I can't tell you. The baer cables are car specific and caliper specific.

I didn't order mine from Noel and found some in the WTB then accidentally got a set from Noel. I've got his email address if you want it. I know he's out of business but he may still check his mail and have some or know where to get them. Also, Blake at Killer Customs might be able to help you out.

What was wrong with your Lokar setup? I used a Lokar rear set and front conector set. I ordered an extra rear sleeve to attach to the factory hole on the floor for the front. Using the stock pedal my setup worked perfect.

With the Lokar cables, the parking brake on my El Camino didn't hold on even the slightest incline. I think the problem was the passenger side cable was such a long run that the caliper couldn't squeeze the rotor enough.

I had LS1 brakes so its probably apples to oranges but I could park on a 30% grade and hold fine.
