      booster or no booster

Just got a full front disc conversion for my 66 el camino, but it has no booster. should I buy one to add in the mix? 9" or 11" I don't know the difference, I must admit.

      Thanks for any help!

That would depend on what you want from your car, what brakes you're running, whether you have the vacuum to adequately supply a booster, etc.

Since you didn't specify, are we to assume that you are running an OE style 11" single piston brake kit? If that's the case, then a single 11" or dual 8" diaphragm booster would probably be the best choice with a 1-1/8" bore MC. Their effective areas are basically the same so they should provide similar levels of boost, however the dual 8" unit will fit better with tall valve covers, LSx coils, etc.

9" was the biggest for the 66. We have it to be the best choice with a small block or bb with short valve covers. We package the 9" as a standard in all of our kits.

If you have a lumpy cam in that car you'll be sorry... My Pontiac 462 makes about 11" of vacuum at idle and that is not enough for a power booster.. I'm removing it this winter...
