time for brakes on my 05 avalanche, can anyone recommend a good set of rotors and pad for highway driving and occasional towing? thanks

EBC Yellow stuff 7000 pads are good for everyday and great for towing, if you want a slightly harder compound for slightly less dust but also slightly less grip the 6000s are a better balance for more DD. The Greenstuff organics are great no-dust DD pads, but not as good for towing.

For rotors, I usually get the autozone lifetime warranty rotors, they are very good about replacements. I've used their Gold series ceramic pads with lifetime warranty as well and they're good for a DD car, but heavy on the dust.

1500 or 2500 Avalanche? Application could certainly impact availability with certain manufacturers since there seemed to be a lot of model year variations with the Avalanche applications.

I would personally look at running some 4000-series slotted DBA rotors and Hawk LTS pads. We've been running them on a dd/tow rig (2000 F250 w/ 7.3 Powerstroke) through the mountains with great results. Much better than the factory junk IMO.

In all honesty if you not having issues with the stock parts pick up a set of AC Delco rotors and have them cryo treated. And honestly I think AC Delco makes an HD upgrade for pads and it turns out the pads can be treated too. OE replacement rotors for my moms 94 Olds were HEAVIER over Chinese one from work.
I actually love Performance Friction brake pads. Good Carbon Metallic can do amazing things.

I can tell you that a friend has destroyed several of the thin Wilwood racing rotors and is now on 3 seasons I think, and the rotors are not rated for 4500lb car, rated for super light roadsters. He got car as is and after trashing a few rotors his employer let him send a set in with some regular parts runs, tada no more destruction, and he is saving for better parts when we pull car apart to update.
Heck I am gonna try to doing this as a side line, the process does work.

I have had PU Trucks all my driving life and I have tried everything (Hawk, EBC Delco...) Hawk and EBC dust and sound like a garbage truck (squeal)

The best pad hands down is the Ackebono Ceramic pad. No dust and long life. I have always used OEM Rotors the few times I needed to replace them. Never use the drilled rotors as they are prone to crack. My experiences are based on a GMC 2500HD

I will second the EBC Yellow Stuff. Great pads, low dust, low noise and they are EU R-90 rated so you know they work great cold or hot.

I've had the Akebono Ceramic pads make some really wierd noises. So bad infact, I've had people stop me to say somethng is wrong with my brakes. They are zero dust and eazy on the rotors, but I was very disappointed with their stopping power.
