Windshield Mount Rear View Mirror with Compass

Anyone know of a vehicle that has one of these? I'd like to get an auto-dimming mirror that mounts to the windshield and has an internal compass. I'm guessing the wire would run up through the windshield molding and back down the A-pillar. Preferably something under $50.

Sweet, thanks. Do you know if the memory for the garage door openers, if they have it, is inside the mirror itself or is it connected to an external ECU?

Also, a company called GENTEX apparently makes these and is a popular vendor for them in other communities.

depends on the car, if the buttons are in the mirror then its all in there. most of GM's garage door buttons are in the sun visor though.

lights only on the 4th gen mirror unless there was an option at the end or the run I'm unaware of. I put one in my 77.

Ditto! My late '02 SS has map lights only, no auto dim.

Hit the salvage yards and look around. I have a 4th gen mirror in my 67. I hope to use a 07-up GM truck mirror in my 69, but not sure whats involved with their wiring.

most infiniti's and nissan upper scale cars have the auto dimming feature, i put one from an infiniti i35 in mine but the garage feature is also in the visor. i have looked at it and it would be pretty simple to retro into your visor if you are going to recover it.

My 99 Tahoe has the auto dim compass and temp in it. I don't know if it needs an ECU to work?

Look up Gentex mirrors on ebay plenty of sellers. Just paid $150 for a brand new one with auto-dim map lights and compass. Came with harness, sensor and the wire to turn the map lights on with the dome light.

Do you have pics of your install? I'm looking at one of these. I ran multiple wires to the mirror area of the headliner when I wired it, so connecting should be easy.

I have only run the harness, it runs up the a pillar under the cover, then behind the windlace and comes out of the hole in the sunvisor holder where the original mirror's "arm" came out. The mirror will be mounted about 3-4" below there. I've held the mirror up with the harness plugged in and it looks factory.

+1 on the Nissan/Infiniti route. You can find mirrors with the garge door opener, compass, ambient temp display, and auto-dimming mirrors for pretty cheap. If you want the ambien display, be sure to get the temp sensor (usually located in front of the radiator).
