New guy from South Ga needing advice

Hey guys i just bought my 71 nova about 1 year ago with the thought of building a pro turing car. When i bought the car the fellow i bought it from didn't tell me that the first owner had kept every recipt ever spent on the car. I have the original tital the bill of sell the original paper work from the bank loan and the dealership bill of sell. And this is just the first day he owned it. I also have every recipt for everything the owner had done to the car. This is a long list that goes from 1971 to the late 1990s when he passed away(its about three folder worth). After that the car sat in storage for about 12 years in florida where the car was originally bought . The car was purchased by a fellow in michigan and spent about 2 or 3 years there untill i bought it. Now where the problem begins is that the fellow in michigan pulled the original 307 and 3 speed out and dropped in a 69 model 350 with a muncie 4 speed. The car is not matching number now but it is a highly documented car so how does this affect the value of the car now. The question is do i cut up a car with this much documentation on it or find another car to mod. I'm having a hard time with the decision and would appricate any input on my decision. Thanks Robert.

It's a 71 Nova. So what if it has documentation. Unless it is a Yenko or some other COPO that I don't know about, strip it down and build what you like. The documentation tells you it is pretty unmolested, but even with the original drivetrain, it just isn't a high dollar car. That is cool, makes it easier to build it like you want it. Stick around here and we can "guild you" in the right direction, but look out, it can get expensive. IF it were mine, DSE frontend, DSE 4 link out back, LS3/T56 and a hefty 12bolt out back after some DSE tubs. Vintage Air for comfort and you got the ultimate sleeper and a fun all around car.

Thanks bill . Yea i'm aware of cost involved with projects,i've got an 86 elky i've been playing with for a while now. Its a kinda Grand National knock off (looks anyway). I've got a 96 Z28 drive line in it and have grafted a buick regel front header panel on it. Its been a slow go just kinda let life get in the way for a while but that happens i guess. Here are a few pics of the car. I know it doesn't look like it but the bottom side has beed media blasted and chassie coated front to back. I've dynamatted the interior floor and mocked up a set of 08 colbot seats and concole.I'm in the process of shaving the bed moulding around the back half right now.I've already placed the caddie taillights in the back half (just something that looks better than the elky lights). Needing to blast and cut door jambs in so i can start doing body work now "oooo what fun!!" not my cup of tea but you do what ya have to i guess.

I'm with Bill, it's a '71 Nova... so I'd go ahead and make it what you want. I have a '72 Nova, same story. 1 owner, all documentation, original everything. If I would have restored it to it's original "pea green" lustre it wouldn't be worth any more. Now if it were an original Yenko, COPO, etc. that's another story. Good luck with the build!
