Questions on supplies?

I'm going to make my first purchases of body work stuff and I want to make sure I get good and compatible products.

I'd also be interested in a good book, so I know what grits to use and when to paint over the primer etc.

I'm going to use SEM panel bond for the DSE fill plate and then paint the rest of my firewall black, using Sherwin Williams Prolane Carbide Black.

So I need to get some filler, primer and metal etch primer for the DSE fill plate.

I'm thinking SEM no shrink plastic filler, SEM seam sealer for the edges of the panel but I'm not sure what metal etch and primer to use. I don't think I need the Carbon Fill, but if it's so much better, I will use it.

I plan to take the firewall down to bare metal, rather than paint over the existing paint though it's in good shape.

SEM panel bond is awesome stuff.

If your going to fill the seam you should use the SEM carbo fill (or All Metal Filler) then the SEM no swell. But at minumum stitch weld every 1" or so.

For primer you should be able to by self etch in a spray bomb that is pretty killer stuff. We use it for spot touch up on edge break throughs

Thanks! Welding access is a very large issue at this point, which is why I was thinking of just bonding it.

If I can access one, should I still use the panel bond and stitch weld? Or just stitch weld and fill?

This is pretty much what I'm looking for, keeping the factory seam and such. Maybe not so detailed, but nice looking.

Looks like I'll be using the Sherwin Williams Dimension paint, now I need a black semi gloss color code that's easy to duplicate. $58 for a quart isn't so bad.

Just tell them to make you a mix with 30% flatning agent

I never knew paint was so confusing. My only experience is with Standox in a class shop and everything was on the shelf with a list to make it all work.

Those paint jobs still look good 10+ years later.

You either weld or bond, but not both
