Ls-1/T-56 swap into 3rd gen trans am

Just getting ready to start this project and I'm looking for some advice. The car has an auto trans and I need to get a clutch pedal assembly for the T-56. I have to use the master cylinder from a 4th gen and from what I've seen so far, some guys use the 4th gen clutch pedals and there are guys that use the 3rd gen clutch pedal but have to modify the master cylinder to make it work. I'd imagine you would have to modify something to get the 4th gen pedals to fit in the car right. Just want to make sure I go the best route without having to spend alot of money. Any insight would be very helpful before I go to purchase any clutch pedal setups.

hard part is to find the pedal assembly then make a bracket to fit the 4th gen master. similar to the early swap kits.

I can get ahold of either clutch pedal assembly. I just want to get the setup that is less aggravating to work with. And yes I've been on hawks to check out the swap parts. I'm just looking for used stuff to keep the cost down. Missed out on a couple deals so far where guys have bought the motor mounts and tranny crossmember from spohn, then made their own, then sold the stuff they bought. trying to talk to as many people as possible that have done the 6 speed swap before i buy a set of pedals. thanks for the tips so far

The August issue of GMHTP (with the yellow and orange Camaro doing a wheel stand) says the 4th gen pedals are a bolt in. I have no personal experience though.

Actually I just found another article in a different GMHTP that says the same thing, that the 4th gen pedals bolt right in. Looks like 4th gen pedals it is.

Yeah I'm hoping those articles are accurate, cause I came across the gas, brake and clutch pedal from an 01 firehawk for $35 bucks.

The 4th gen pedals will work, but it's not a direct bolt in. There are some minor mods that have to be done. I used a 3rd gen hydraulic pedal in my 83 when I swapped in a T-56 years ago. The 4th gen master works perfectly with 3rd gen manual pedals.

Be careful when sourcing pedals from another 3rd gen because 82-83 had mechanical linkage. 84+ had hydraulic. I got my pedals out of an 85 or 86 if I remember correctly.

Are you saying you didn't have to modify the 4th gen. master cylinder at all to make the 3rd gen pedals work?

Correct - there is no modification needed to install the complete 4th gen assembly. It bolts right to the firewall of the thirdgen. Or at least it did on mine.
