      Should I spray Kandy?

I'm trying to decide if I should paint my car with the Dupont Hott Lazer Blue Candy or if I should just stick to a electron blue.

Main problem is I am a backyard painter. I've painted parts of cars before but never the whole thing and never a candy.

My car will never be a show car, I just want it to look good.

Am I crazy thinking about doing a true 3 step kandy?

Yes you could consider yourself crazy! Candies are a completly different animal they srtipe really bad and are very hard to spray! however they look great when done properly but gun technique and overlaps must be perfect and if you ever scratch you better just reshoot the whole car because it will never match like it did before! I would stick with electron blue in case future problems occur! Electron blue is a very nice color we have a 37 ford that is two toned electron blue and black!

Spraying candys takes some technique and a spot free environment for a "flawless" job. Candy paints require the painter to "bring up the color" or spray light even coats to build up the color, rather than put it on in one or two coats. I've done candys that have take me 15 coats to get the color I was after. If it's a true candy, color can be adjusted by several shades depending on how many coats you apply. Being a backyard painter, each coat may get more and more dirt, making candy's a difficult system to use(unless you flake it which tends to hide some of it). Unless you have a booth, you may want to restrict yourself to the least amout of coats as possible. However, if you have a good setup at the house, and can produce a job that has a low amout of dirt, give it a shot. Just don't get in a hurry when painting candys....that 15 coat job took me 16 hours....straight. It can make for a long day.

Here is a visual example of the best way to spray metallics, pearl, and candy paint. This is just what I do to make sure there is no way there will be the Tiger stripe effect. It works well for me. Jake will probably tune in some time soon with some really good advice.

Ok You've convinced me. Electron Blue it is.
I know I could do Candy, given enough time money and retries, but Sheesh, it's not a show car and I bet most poeople wouldn't even notice. and prolly those who could tell would see the flaws ...

OK On to the next question, Whose paint? ( I'll start a new thread )

If you want a real candy looking blue 2004 Honda Civic blue will blow you away. Makes Gm Escalade blue look dull in comparison. If you are interested I could post paint code. Most intense 2 stage blue you will find.

Cool I'll have to check out the Civic blue!
Thanks! I'll just pretend not to know the paint code when people ask ;-)
