Trunk Mounted System

Well I finally got the Vintage air sure fit a/c system mounted up in my 56 chevy.

Now I lost the spot where I had my radio installed (see picture below and my crude attempt to show where the stereo went in red ). It was in the glove box section, but now can't fit there with the a/c unit installed. Also the A/C vents are now mounted on the bottom of the dash, so I can't make a mount there.

Stock Location is not an option.

What are you guys using as far as trunk mounted radio and systems?

Any suggestions?

SecretAudio SST (http://www.casmfg.com/Secretaudio.htm) is what I'm using, but I wasn't concerned about sound quality since my car is a vert, and it's kind of loud anyway. The unit works fine and is very convenient, however if I really wanted decent sound out of it I would add a separate amp.

Mine is completely hidden. I only have the very end of the iPod connector exposed in my trunk. Everything else is concealed. The RF remote works great.

Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone else? The car is a hardtop so I'd like to have a real decent system in it.

I thought about using this full function/full display wireless remote from Alpine--works with their marine receivers which could be mounted in the trunk.

I think iPod's and an amp that offers a remote volume knob are the easiest way to go. Plus w/the new iPod shuffle you get an FM tuner now also!!!

What's your budget? How fancy do you want to go? I just finished the system in my 68 Camaro. The system is built around a Kenwood KOS V1000 Audio/Video Controller. This along with a Memphis baby bell amp is mounted in the trunk. This gives me an AM/FM Tuner and the ability to integrate: I-Pod, Navigation, Satellite Radio, CD Player, Video Source. I have a Touch Screen in the dash that also can be controlled by a remote. Really nice system. I am currently using and I-pod, dock is mounted in console and navigation and I will be adding the Satellite Radio shortly. Nice system and is easy to use. I'm going with the Clarion CMS1 Marine unit in two of my Chevelles. It has Ipod/Sat. radio hook ups, USB for a flash hook up, and the main unit is waterproof and will go in the trunk. The display has an 8 foot cord and the system is also compatible with a wired remote too. These can be found on E-Bay for under $200 sometimes.

Just as an FYI, the thing I like best about the CAS SecretAudio SST is the RF based remote control. I really like being able to just do whatever I want to control the unit with no wires, and no concerns about having line of sight to some IR sensor.

I agree with you on the RF. Alpine makes one also, it was designed for marine use so it is waterproof and floats.

I wish I had seen the Alpine unit first. The SecretAudio is OK, but the quality is just "OK". For me it really doesn't matter that much, as I have a convertible with a kind of nasty drivetrain that makes hearing anything a bit hard to begin with.
