Thoughts on a OBDII scanner that uses a laptop

I am having trouble with my truck as I do from time to time and I have been thinking about buying an ODBII code reader/scanner.

While searching Amazon I run across a few that are basically a cable and some software I use with a laptop. I would assume I can find out a lot more info going that route. Some of my issues are intermittent and data logging I think is the key.

Are there any to avoid? Will any of them allow me to make any changes like tire size to correct my speedometer?

Larry, I've been using Auto Tap for any years and like it. Many times I've resolved problems with my 97 GMC as well as Saab, etc. I hook up the laptop, read the code and you can also see the other parameters including while the vehicle is running.

I've used HPTuners for scanning quite a few cars for issues. I have the full tuning suite, however I know they offer a scanning only option. You can check it out at HPTuners.com
