      Molded plastic seats

so from a weight&budget standpoint, i really like these plastic seats you can get at summit or jegs.
only question is, will it have enough lateral support?

just a hair over $100 shipped for a pair of these
      http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G2100/

      or

same price shipped for a pair of these
      http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/70250/10002/-1

but both worry me they wont have enough lateral support.

      this option,

$180or so shipped for a pair

looks like it might be better, but its almost double the price.

Do you plan on having them padded and covered? They look mighty uncomfortable and will absolutely be murder to sit on in the sun. I find used fixed-back sparcos and recaros quite a bit on craigslist for ~200 bucks. My brother has a Jegs plastic seat that he can't even tolerate for video gaming!

its for a toy and not a daily, so i dont think it'll be too bad.
i wasnt planning on covering or padding them at all.
ive ben watching craigslist but nothing popping up around here yet, but the plastic should be lighter though?

I have a set of the previous model of those seats in one of my cars. I bought the padded seat covers and then also added my own padding to make them more comfortable. Lateral support is fine for spirited driving, auto-X etc. but not like a real road race seat. I wouldn't want to sit in them without pads and covers for more than a few minutes. They are lightweight.

Since they don't hinge, rear seat entry may be tough depending on the car.

The plastic seat will weigh a few pounds less than a fiberglass seat. The plastic seat we have weighs about 14-15 lbs and the Sparco Pro2000 I have weighs 19lbs...with a minimumal amount of padding, even this seat gets uncomfortable after around 80-90 minutes of driving. Stiff suspension and a hard plastic seat means you're going to get a lot of shock transferred to your body. It's fine on a track where the surface is smooth and you're only driving for short durations, but on the highway with broken pavement, it will get frustrating.

Believe me, I like to be as hardcore as anybody...but I dunno if you will be happy with it.

hmm... are they really that bad? i know the school seats didnt have any vibrations but they were usually hard plastic and you sat in them all day everyday right?

true my suspension is pretty stiff, and michigan roads are not exactly what you'd call smooth...

but budget is tight. maybe ill try, and if its truely horrible i wont be down too much money.

but thanks for letting me know the lateral support isnt too bad.
as long as they are comparable to say, a stock sport compact seat (i used to have civic crx seats in there) in lateral support i would be happy for now
