69 Camaro Carbon Fiber Pieces?

My plan for the interior consists of incorporating the new with the old, stock interior pieces with modern materials and parts. With that said I am putting autometer UL gauges in the stock speedo/tach local in the dash and want to cover or somehow make carbon fiber panels where the rosewood pieces would go. I bought carbon fiber vinyl panels to make the or cover the rosewood stuff by the light switch, radio, and glove box, ashtray, but I also want to cover the autometer console cluster to tie the whole thing together. My questions is I'm not real happy with the way the vinyl looks and there is no way I could cover the gauge cluster with all the bumps and radius' . Is there a better way? I've never messed with CF before and can't imagine how expensive it would be to have someone create from scratch... Sorry for being long winded, I hope you get the idea.... Any Suggestions?

Yep.. contact Exotic Wood Dash.. i think they are in Washington State..

They have a faux CF coating that they do that looks pretty good.. they can coat ANYTHING plastic.. if you go to the appearance section of LS1tech and do a search on carbon fiber im sure you will find pics.. one guy there named Todd had his entire interior done. I had it done on some parts in my engine bay. It is not real CF but it looks pretty good.

The problem with CF is when either A. it is a bad fake or B. you used different looking stuff.. you need to be consistant or it will not all work together..

You can get your parts coated in REAL CF but it is super expensive..

Or go to Fibre Glast and check out their forum. They sell books, videos, everything needed to do the job yourself.

I was going to purchase some adhesive backed veneer CF from www.dragonplate.com and give that a shot. There is also another place that sells veneers: www.autoworks.com.

I bought some stuff from these guys before http://www.macqc.com/raceplates/newProducts.htm ...pretty good quality not the cheap vinyl look like the Covans carbon fibre... I had posted their info in the old forums as well check them out... the trunk lid center piece in my pics is made from a sheet of theirs and my center console insert is some of their more flexible sheets (they have alot of different sizes and thicknesses for different applications) Goodluck!

Tim, how does that hydro stuff compare to the real thing. It looks great in the pics but I would really like to see in person. My dilema is that if I do one piece that way I would have to do the whole project to keep consistancy. I might be able to pull it off on the smaller pieces but when it comes to the dash I'm skeptical... Never the less I think I might contact them with the guages pod.. How much did the shifter plate cost?

With a quick glance you can't tell the difference, you have to look at the part close too see that it's fake.
If you do everything in the basic grey carbon you can do it in pieces, but you're allways better off doing everything at the same time.
The process use standard automotive paints as a base color then he applies a thin graphic to the part and clear coats it.
So you can do any color carbon fiber you desire with a gloss or semi gloss finish, he's done some real cool parts with Candy colors.
The process can be applied to any smooth surface.
