      Temp Sending Units

Probably been asked before, but can you use the same temp sending unit for more than 1 purpose? I currently have one for my electric fans and another for my ECU (FAST). I just got my Autometer Nexus gauges and now I have a 3rd sending unit to install. Anyone know if I can share the sending unit between the ECU and the electronic gauge?

      Same question with Map sensor

As a followup to my first question, I am also mounting a boost/vacuum gauge and see that it came with it's own map sensor. I already have a map sensor for my ECU, can I use the same map sensor? or do I need to install the 2nd one?

      Map Sensor - Answered

OK....did a bunch of googling and found some answers. Thought I would share them here in case anyone else has the questions I did.

The map sensor can NOT be shared between the ECU and a gauge. Found the answer on several web sites (mostly import sites, but don't hold that against me).

Also, realized that the ECU has a hook-up to turn on my fans (via a relay), so I think I'll replace the fan temp sender, and use the ECU signal instead. Then I can mount the gauge sender where the fan sender was. Would be great to have only 1 sending unit though, but I suspect that this is the same as above and cannot be shared.

I'm surprised no one makes a device that takes either a resistance to ground or voltage value and replicates it to be used by an ECU as well as a gauge. (Small hint for you guys in the biz!)

check out this wesite, and read their tech pages; it will explain why different senders have such variability, and why you can't interchange various manufacturer's units. The voltage curves are different, for one thing. thanks, m weiss.

No, you cannot, you will have to run multiple senders. If you conncet 2 devices to one sender, it will split the resistance and show half the reading, unless you run a dual station sender, but it has to match whatever you are using it for
