      Ragjoint for Lee steeringbox

Can someone help with information on what ragjoint I should have for a Lee steeringbox.

This one is for a 67 Chevelle, the Chevelle ragjoint don't fit on the steeering box.

What car can I get one from?

I would like to find one at our local partsupplier over here that's why I need to know from which car it can be used from.

      Thanks

You'll have to measure the diameter of the steering box input shaft and count the splines, and do the same on the column and start the search for what you need. There are a bunch of joints out there. You can find them from Borgeson, Flaming River, etc. Good luck.

I believe they use what's called a "hybrid" rag joint. It has the old style splines on the column side and the modern style splines on the steering box side. You can get them from Lee directly, SC&C, etc. They're not cheap though, about $75 if I recall correctly. I'm not sure if any production car had that style of rag joint.

A rag joint from a late 70's Camaro or Pickup truck should work. I know it works for a 3rd gen IROC box conversion.
According to articles, pre 1980 boxes have a .760" input shaft, 1980 and up boxes have a smaller .670" shaft and require a smaller coupler #7826542 from a 77-86 pickup. Pinch bolt #7807271 is used with the coupler.

Here is a listing of production GM vehicles that have flexible couplings that will adapt your steering column to the new steering gear with a 3/4" (30 spline?) input shaft.

Hmmm. I just put a Sweet 12:1 box on my car and everything bolted right up.

It depends on which box you put in. If you're putting in an 800 box, then the normal 13/16-36 rag joint will go right on. If you switch to a 670 box, the shaft is a 3/4-30 so you'd need a different rag joint or u-joint.

Must of been an 800 series like the original only with a fast ratio and not the 670 series like the Lee and DSE.

Just so you know, Lee does both 600 and 800 series boxes so you can get either one from them.

OK, time for the quick note: If anybody is looking for a nice newly rebuilt quick ratio 800 box - maybe even including a 13/16-36 polished stainless u-joint - let me know.....

Back to your regularly scheduled programming....
