Lowbuckx Gas tank mods and Filler neck reloction.. (Self made pop-up cap filler)

Im planning some exstensive home spun mods to a stock type tank. Im also fairly sick of fuel pouring out of my licence plate. I ve replaced the cap many times and id hate to think of how much fuel Ive dumped on the road over the many years Ive owned the car.

      Here is step one
main house and tube is 7075 (over kill but was on the cut off shelf at local suppy house) (small drops equal cheap prices)

bezel is 4.125 total of 3.4 over all length 2inch filler tube.. cap is vented..

Push and 1/8 turn pops out cap and unscrew.

Nothing says "I built this" better than tool marks and dykem blue..

      Looks very nice!

How does the vent work? I must be missing something because the O-ring should seal the filler neck.

Are you going to use a flexible hose to connect it to a stock tank or are you going to make your own tank?

I am interested because I need to modify my own tank to keep the fuel from pouring out.

I will be using a section of stock filler neck and 2 angled rubber gas filler hoses. wont know for sure on hose angles yet. Or that stainless koolant line could be an option...

Here is about the vent and oring

There will also bee a tank venting system with a vapor seperator...

looks good, how well does it work? looks like it will work! I got tired of all the gas splashing out and made a little stop for our cobras at work and one for my mustang but being winter I haven't tried it out just bench tested here is a pic. the first one was made with a ping pong ball.

That is a elegant and simple solution!

My plan was to attach a lightly sprung flap at the end of the fill tube inside the tank. Lets gas in at the pump but would block it coming back out. Your idea seems like it would work better!

      Neato!

      edit:
wait! Will you plan on welding that joint?

I didn't think 7000 series was very weldable.....<---the reason for me asking.

Press fit with a fuel safe oring and epoxy no weld. It is already permanently bonded in that pic..

I didnt know that it was a poor welding material till you said something. I dont know how to weld Aluminum yet so pressing and bonding was my plan from the start.

So wait, is it still going to be behind the license plate or are you going to mount it in the panel between the trunk and bumper? It definitely looks trick, and I feel your pain. I've actually been pulled over a few times by other drivers. They saw gas pouring out of the tank and "wanted to warn me".

Sure but my battery in my camera is dead but I was able to grab a few shots..
Here is the cap installed Not sure if I should black it out or keep it polished...

Here is the tunnel i fabbed for the neck to pass through. The chain and weight are attachet to the cap on the other end.. Id hate to loose a one off peice like this..

This is the start for the large sump box I also made check valves for it.

Here is sum bling. These are the vapor seperators AKA the Kooling Towers...

      ugh

looks great! my javelin has the same deal, filler behind the license plate... it's a huge PITA. I'm planning on moving my filler up between my tail lights to. I bought a motorcycle gas flip cap I'm planning to use.
